It's really disheartening to think about how my dad spent $2,000 (or however much) on the Princeton Review class, hoping it would make me perform better. What’s even more disappointing is how so many parents, including mine, place so much emphasis on academics and college, believing it will inherently make their child a better person. In reality, what truly matters is understanding what your child is going through, having an open mind, and fostering genuine communication. Instead of constantly comparing it to how hard their past was or dismissing their child’s struggles as “easier,” parents could make a more meaningful impact by showing empathy and support. If i had a podcast i would defiantly speak more on this subject and more like it.

Very sad how it has come down to the people that have the most money to help their kids prepare are often the ones that get accepted. These are often factors out of your control as an applicant. You can't exactly decide your family's income and your past. The system has become even more broken now than it ever has been. My mom was not in a position where she could pay for a college prep course or summer program at a college nor did she have any idea of what the requirements even were for college acceptance. Nobody in my family went to college except an uncle so I was 100 percent on my own to do this and this was many years ago.

One tip for joining a club is try to find a club that hosts competitions and major national tournamnets (ex debate club,DECA,BPA,Hosa) and try to win the national level tier.

Ngl from experience I can say that 90% of people who do these competitions do these on the side with other more important things so even as a sophomore or freshman you have a big chance to win big awards if you put in a lot of time. That being said, math competitions and other stuff is act so fucking insane that you shouldnt pressure yourself to win at a national level or even state level

Is getting to DECA State as a Freshman good? I rly can't tell with all that's going on.

The key to doing well on a math competition is being able to make all practise problems without looking up the solutions, this is how I was initially selected for the Dutch Mathematics Olympiad.

4:51 The University of Maryland camp was only $35 (few small fees), but it was amazing. I learned so much cool math.

For mathematics, I cannot recommend competitions enough. You know enough if you can make all practise problems without looking up any answers.

Do you know any STEM camps besides ISEF (not available in my country) and 3M (only open to U.S. applicants) for internationals? Also what changes/how much more difficult is it to get into an Ivy as an international (not from a big country though)?
@hitanimations9085Күн бұрын
Used is not a camp but a completion wic and has a national stage in most countries

try to find a unique topic that has a wider impact on human health or the environment. finding a mentor professor at a local university can be helpful for that!

is EUCYS as good as ISEF? I already missed my chance at the local ISEF qualifier and I'm in my junior year. I don't want to take a gap year and the only other big international science fair I've found that is still open to registration is EUCYS
