I'm in rad school too! I've noticed from your vlogs that we use the same positioning textbook, how crazy?! What are some study tips that you would recommend? I am just starting rad school, I'm in my first semester now. Also, what are some tips you would recommend for going to clinical? We will start going in the next few months but I just don't know what to expect!!! Thanks girl, xoxo

omg that’s amazing! How funny! I love that book! aaaaah the anticipation of starting clinical is the worst part! We started clinical two weeks into our very first semester & the wait was terrifying! I’ve been at a big hospital for my first two rotations & it is sooo busy, which I love! Such an amazing learning experience right from the start. My advice is to jump in at any opportunity you can, & ask questions! Even if it’s an exam you haven’t covered yet, watch and help out your supervising techs and show that initiative :) Just a side note - we have 8 hour clinical days and my feet/legs hurt so bad at the end of the day. Highly recommend Blitzu calf compression sleeves on Amazon! Life saver! you’ve got this, girl! you’re going to rock it out :) if you ever have other questions or want to talk, send me a message on insta!!

I'm a rad tech student too! Again, using Bontrager's as our book. The fist semester is always the most intimidating but it's going to be ok. My advice is to just take it one day at a time. Clinic is tough but so worth it. Study advice would be study a little bit of everything each night so you don't feel rushed or stressed out about it. You got this!

Wanted to find out more about this career and stayed for the interesting content! Do you find the work Physically demanding? I keep hearing that down the line a lot of people end up having to get surgery on account of having to lug patients around?
@JuliaKristine4 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on the facility you're at! Some facilities are short staffed and require the technologists to transport patients from their bed to the table by themselves, which is SO bad for a person's back. I personally didn't experience this though! Some days you will get 12,000+ steps and the lead aprons weighed on my low back some days, but it's not too bad!
@MsCankersore4 жыл бұрын
First off, thanks for the detailed reply. I was on the fence on about wether to consider this as a career since I have lower issues but soon will be ridding myself of that, hopefully. Didn't know about the lead aprons as well so thanks for the heads up. I'm really digging the videos as they are both useful and well edited :)

You don’t learn any exams before going to clinical? We learned to take chest X-rays before we went to clinical so that as long as we passed our tests we could take chest X-rays with supervision. Also, how are you liking surgery so far? I’m in my 4th semester and am just finally starting to love surgery because I’m starting to get comfortable because it’s sooo intimidating.
@JuliaKristine6 жыл бұрын
We started clinical the second week of first semester, so we hadn't learned much about positioning at that time! We started the chest chapter the same week that we started clinical :) This vlog was from the start of my semester! Now three months in, we are now tested out on chest, abdomen, upper extremity, and shoulder girdle, so we can comp out of any of those exams! Basically we start a new chapter then test out the following week. Once we have taken & passed the written test/lab test out, we are allowed to comp out on that exam in the clinical setting under direct supervision! Once we have comped out of 4 of that specific exam under direct supervision, we are allowed to take them under indirect supervision. I hope that makes sense! I enjoy surgery a lot! Still getting used to being around the sterile environment, even three months in, but it's an amazing experience! It's SO intimidating - I'm glad you can relate! I respect the surgical techs & surgeons SO much.

What shoes do you recommend? We are supposed to have leather or non-canvas shoes in plain colors.
@JuliaKristine3 жыл бұрын
I didn't have those requirements, so I'm not sure of comfortable recommendations! We were allowed to wear any shoes that didn't have holes (ex. Crocs)

Why do you have to change at the hospital and can’t just wear your scrubs there?

We go into surgery, so the scrubs have to be laundered by the hospital! You can’t wear street clothing into the operating room

What’s the difference between radiography and radiology
@JuliaKristine5 жыл бұрын
Radiography is the process of taking xrays. Radiology is the study of xrays/radiation.
@cassiesheeley63924 жыл бұрын
Basically, radiology is working with x-rays, making a diagnosis, and then performing procedures. Radiography, however, involves manning the machine and telling the doctors and radiologists what's up with the x-rays and what they tell us about the patient's injury/condition. Same type of field, but radiology is more advanced than radiography.

99% of this has nothing to do with a day in the life of school.
@JuliaKristine3 жыл бұрын
Then simply don’t watch and don’t waste your time commenting this?? I can guarantee 99% of any college vlogs do not show college lectures/classes… that is against all university guidelines since you pay for your education. Wouldn’t make much sense for people to go to school if people posted that for free? Also, any and all clinical experience (nursing, respiratory therapy programs, etc.) can’t be filmed either because of HIPPA. I think I tried my best given the circumstances. Have a good day.
