I have heard version of this before. While they may have needed to pass more, obviously, they in no way manned up against the run. 172 yards rushing. They blew it. I would think, if anything, they try to stuff the box to NOT let that happen again. But, that would simply play into Heupel's scheme and then leave it to the receivers to catch the ball. And that is a big ask if you ask me. Lots of drops by UT this year. Lots.

If Michigan ran on Ohio State, Tennessee will run on Ohio State. I’m betting Jim Knowles loads the box and goes full pressure on Nico to start the game, trusting his secondary to prevent big plays. If Tennessee can get off a few draw plays, RPO’s, counters, screens for big gains, Ohio State may have to adjust. But that’s just it. They rarely ever adjust their game plan. Over 4 quarters the Tennessee run game picks up and mid to late 3rd quarter Tennessee pulls away. On the other side of the ball, I see Tennessee running Michigan’s playbook, pressure with 4 and play mixed zones defensively to prevent big plays. When the zone collapses, force FG’s. It may come down to which team is more patient. I don’t know if Heupel can pull that off. History shows that Ryan Day is terrible at it. My guess is the Ohio State O-line fails and Day gets outcoached (again) in a big game, and Tennessee wins by 10.

Not Oregon. Not Penn State. Not Nebraska. More importantly, we held the ball when we needed to and kept your whiny overrated offense with your not so tough, concussed quarterback on the bench, and you couldn’t do a da_n thing about it. It was so hilarious watching Judkins stomping around, taunting and trash talking all day like a high school punk, only to finish with an underwhelming 46 yards. All we heard preseason was “Elite! Heisman!” ……..Or not 😏. And then you see a man, Kalel Mullings, pound for his 4-5 yards and calmly stand and hand the ball to the ref. And then, on 3rd and 6, he embarrassed your defense to set up the game-winning FG, and again, you couldn’t do a da_n thing about it, even with 12 guys on the field. The thing that makes it hard for Tennessee to win is the fact that they are not geared to use a high TOP against osu. Michigan won by keeping it close, ugly, and holding the ball as long as possible. If Tennessee is able to dominate TOP and use the clock to their advantage, I think they can win on their run game alone. If they can't, they will be dependent on the boom or bust throws like you guys said. This will probably be the only good game of the entire first round save maybe Indiana at Notre Dame the night before.

The Nico slander is a bit over the top. He's a RS Freshman that played two night conference games on the road back to back. It led to some struggles that carried on for the first half of the season. But he is playing at a much better level now. He looks more comfortable in the pocket, he is converting more on 3rd downs and throwing more TDs. He doesn't have jaw dropping stats, but it's less to do with his capability and more to do with the consistency of the run game.
@plessinger310 сағат бұрын
Well, let's see how he does in a playoff road night game. Big stage for a young QB.
@tjsokkerplayer10 сағат бұрын
@plessinger3 True, but he essentially already played in an away playoff game when he played UGA. Georgia was fighting for their postseason lives and to avoid their 3rd loss. Nico looked poised for the majority of the game and was efficient converting on 3rd downs. It was bad penalties, conservative playcalling, and poor defensive play that caused Tennessee to lose that game. Nico himself had a fair effort and was far from the problem that game. But yes, it's always tough to play in those enviornments and Nico has already had to play 3 night conference games as a RS freshman. So some leeway should be given imo.

The problem with OSU is how they’re constructed. A great defense pairs well with a great run game, because eventually a run game will wear out even a Def like the Buckeyes. Ineffective runs still serve a purpose if the opponent can’t punish you with points. If OSU can’t grab a decent lead early I wouldn’t be surprised if Tenn is completely stagnant for 3 quarters and then starts hitting bigger and bigger runs. Also a CLE area guy, you need a little extra arm for the weather. Howard was great with intermediate 15-20yd passes early in the year, but they seem to have become shorter and less consistent as the Midwest weather has kicked in, and I’m not sure he can handle ~20 degree temps and maybe ~15mph winds.

Michigan really should have only scored 3 points. Give them credit, they hit a 56 yd fg and took a TO to the 2. But I don’t think Michigan’s offense deserves any credit, and therefore don’t think that pointing out Tennessee has a better offense means anything. I think it will completely come down to Tennessee’s defense vs OSU’s passing game. If they can guard them long enough for the pass rush to get home, they will win via offensive opportunities. I still think OSU wins 17-13, but man I somehow feel less confident in them than your model’s consistency score.

Tennessee defensive line is able to disrupt Ohio State offensive line/quarterback, to help carry the Vols to a win AT Ohio State’s house.. Tennessee freshman quarterback Iamaleava settles down, and passes with more accuracy in postseason… Dylan Sampson does, what Dylan Sampson does… Georgia’s hostile crowd proves to have helped the young Tennessee squad face hostile Ohio State folks… Tennessee wins the ballgame… 24 - 17

The Michigan game is such a great distraction for Ohio State. Keep your focus on that Tennessee.

Both teams had a rival game that could have messed up their entire season. Tennessee played at Vanderbilt and Ohio State played at home. Diego Pavia is absolutely unreal and Tennessee held him to his worst game of the year. Michigan wishes they had a Diego Pavia. Ohio State would have lost by 20 points then. The most complete and the best game that the Tennessee has played was our last one. The worst game Ohio State played was the last one and that is their offensive line that is starting for the game against Tennessee. What am I missing here?

Hot take: Tennessee is arguably the most overrated team in the country. Their offense simply does nothing against quality opposition - particularly games where they don’t have a massive edge in the trenches and can’t have Sampson win the game single-handedly. They had 3 quality performances all year: winning by 10 on the road at 6-6 OU, winning by 13 on the road against 6-6 Vandy, and beating Bama at home. 99% of their “resume” is beating Alabama, who committed FIFTEEN FUCKING PENALTIES against them and looked like gutter ass on the road - as they did all year.
@EulogyfortheAngels12 сағат бұрын
Use that lens on everyone: once you really dig into every team, you could break a lot of them down to 1 or 2 good/decent wins and the rest is just meh. Even with your point taken Tennessee has more quality wins than Indiana, Notre Dame, SMU, Clemson, and Boise State.

Right. They have the 4th ranked defense and the 8th ranked offense and they are arguably the most overrated team in the country. Hot Take: The SEC is MUCH deeper than the Big 10 this year, by far. That being a fact, perhaps it is OSU that is the most overrated team?

As a Michigan fan it was obvious Day threw the playbook out the window vs Michigan and just tried to run the ball too much. Had they gone fast tempo and passed the ball they would have put up at least 24 points even with the 2 missed field goals vs a very good Michigan defense

@@CollegeFootballNerds8 of the top 18 top team defenses reside in the Big 10. EIGHT! The defenses Ohio State has faced in aggregate is considerably better than what TN saw. And Ohio State was a couple plays from running the table. Nebraska, Iowa, Penn St, and Indiana are very good wins for Ohio St. Oregon and to a degree, Michigan, are not bad losses. Michigan has a top ranked defense. On the other hand, besides Penn St and OR, Ohio State hasn’t faced stellar offenses. But TN is not exactly a stellar offense when you look at the lack of comparable defenses in the SEC.

I would love to hear either of their reasonings as to why an Ohio State can lose to a Michigan and they say Ohio State will bounce back and play well. While a Miami can lose to a 9-3 Syracuse and they both say Miami is a bad team and doesn’t deserve to be in the playoff.
@CollegeFootballNerds13 сағат бұрын
Miami lost to 2 unranked teams, beat 0 ranked teams, and had to come from behind down 35-10 to Cal, down double digits in 2nd half to Duke, needing a miracle reversal to beat Va Tech, and a one-score win over Louisville. Ohio State has had 2 bad games all year: Nebraska (win) and Michigan (loss). They've beaten another playoff team, and came within one on the road vs the #1 overall. They've played horribly in 42% of their games and have played a schedule so weak that they only faced one currently (barely) ranked team all year.
@Stone279913 сағат бұрын
@ I see what you’re trying to say but I don’t agree with the “ranked wins” aspect. I believe Duke, Cuse, and Louisville are all good enough to be ranked. If you put them 23, 24, and 25, Miami’s schedule suddenly looks much better in your argument. I also still disagree with this idea y’all have that Miami needed a “miracle” reversal to beat VT. The correct call came down and Miami won. If it was OSU in that same position but the call was right from the start, I doubt you would criticize them the same way.

This guy shits on Nico every Tennessee game. Tennessee lead the SEC in WR drop yds and qb pressures allowed. Similar situation with Jackson Arnold. Nico is actually stellar on off platform plays. They roll him out more often than Milton or Hooker ever did. Tennessee wins if the dline gets home or if OSU isn’t prepared for the unique UT scheme. SEC teams have prepared for them for years now.
@stephtraveler737814 сағат бұрын
Goes like this: OSU will disable to sideline Ipads and helmet mics (Vandy actually did this against UT). Then OSU will only partially fill the sideline heaters. They will run out of propane about gametime... OSU will limit ticket sales to a mere 4500 UT fans. (already done) and pack the stadium with 100,000 OSU fans. The ref crew will be known SEC haters... Then, Oregon will beat the crap out of OSU the following week on their home turf.

Why don’t any YT channels break down game film? No one does it. It’s always just stats. Does it have to do with copyright? What I saw watching two of Tennessee’s games is a below average secondary and linebacker group. I don’t see how their pass defense is rated so high.
