Agree. I’m better doing degree plans for people than the people at UMPI. People can pretty much do it themselves for many transfers. I’ve had to encourage a lot of people to push back. Dori being out on maternity leave didn’t help. She’s one of the best advisors.

I completed my BLS in less than a single term (with maxing transfer credits) with the plan to go through Georgia Tech’s OMSCS degree. I’m working through one last pre-requisite before applying, but I recently saw UMPI was hiring for math/science and comp sci YP professors. I think I’m going to wait to see more details about their CompSci degree before committing one way or the other. As a professional SWE, I just want some basics and a CS degree with cost in mind. I’m looking forward to it and definitely not opposed to heading back for CS if it seems manageable in 1 - 2 terms.

UMPI was the best choice I ever made. Finished in 2 terms. Got my BBA in 2 terms while working and parenting 2 kids under 6. I will sing their praises forever and ever! I would’ve finished in 1 term with a BLS but I wanted the BBA. I can’t wait for the MS in Business. I am hoping they one day do a MPA program 🤞🏾

Thanks for the update. Couple of thoughts: 1 - Adding more credit hour requirements to the BABA programs does not automatically mean you will need to take more classes at UMPI. As an example, in the old BABA/M&L plan, you could transfer in six core business classes and six concentration classes. That is 12 out of 20 classes you could transfer in. If you maximized, you would only need 8 business classes, plus any two other classes. Even if there are new classes added that cannot be transferred in, there's still a bit of flex by completing the others that can be transferred in. Also, I think if you are the type of person with the type of environment and mindset to be able to complete 10 classes in a term, you can also complete 12 classes in a term. 2 - If you can go fast and complete in one or two terms, the cost is still absurdly low. They could double it and it would still be low. 3 - Computer Science is an exciting addition. I hope they also offer minors, and perhaps relevant concentrations, for example, in the BABA program. I hope Dr. Chang landed OK. The silence on why she left does not bode well, but you never know. Overall, exciting times for UMPI. (I agree, I don't really like the "umpy" nickname.)

So far what we’ve mapped they do happen to be classes that aren’t hackable. But you’re right, adding more classes to the degrees doesn’t inherently mean they aren’t hackable. Good thoughts!

Waiting a month for conferral would be a welcome change. UMPI actively states that the conferral process is 6-8 weeks. It greatly affects those planning on moving into a master's program with another university. The errors aren't just with new people though, there are a few well-established administrative people who continue to make errors. UMPI is a great school, however there is dissatisfaction among students, in part to what you eluded to in the video. It would be nice to see an updated video that has YOY YP enrollment numbers. I'd recommend UMPI, but it's definitely not for everyone. Be prepared to do a ton of writing, and some classes are now having PowerPoint added to the finals, or in place of a written document.

@@oeovelour7515 If you decide to do a business degree I would head to the new academic calendar on the UMPI website. These changes will affect Yourpace students next year onwards. Not sure if exactly during the first term of 2025 (I got this information from the UMPI Yourpace discord where someone asked the university directly)

Thanks! If the program leads to licensure, you don’t have to worry too much since the quality is essentially assured. I think ACU is a good school, but I know someone who did their Psych masters their and really enjoyed it, so I’m slightly biased 😉

As for the CS degree timeline, only the school knows so far, they haven’t shared a timeline just yet. Academic calendars run fall to fall, August or September depending on the school.

Glad that you questioned UMPI about the price hike. 5 years from now, they will probably be the same cost of local colleges/universities in your local area. In higher learning, good things never last. But I'm still hoping another old brick and mortar university with low enrollment will come to their senses, embrace competency based learning, and start some online programs for the nation that are $1500 and under. There needs to be more affordable CBE programs out there now. I welcome the schools that want to create competition in this now thriving open market online low-cost (under $1500) education.

Not a lot of concrete information, unfortunately. Purdue Global has an exceltrack MBA with paper/project finals if the proctored exams are the main thing you’re looking to avoid.

This is my first term and semester, having paid tuition from my 401(k) withdrawal as I couldn't get financial aid as a Canadian. Not helpful, I had to wait a week to three to get any response and I have been encouraged to take just one course per term. I cannot afford this. We have better schools and cheaper tuition here in Canada and if I am to go that slow, I might as well quit. Still haven't gotten my student card. I will finish up the two courses I am enrolled in the best I could in the CBE, then move on to a another school for accounting I focus on. I already have a previous bachelor's. Not all of their services are accessible. Disappointing.

Encouragement and requirement are different. Within the policies of the school you’re allowed to do what you want, so don’t let schools tell you how much to take unless it’s a strict line in the sand. One of the benefits of planning before starting is knowing what your goals are for the degree concerning time and cost. Our clients average 3-4 classes per term at UMPI and typically finish the 10 classes they need there in 1-3 terms depending on personal variables. Wherever you land next, make a plan beforehand so the school doesn’t sway you into a bad experience. You got this!

When you submit a final exam for a course, you can register for another even before it’s graded. You’re also able to do 2 courses at a time. I’m about to finish my BA in accounting soon here.

Check with the school directly. See if there's any coursera you can transfer in or do before you start as well. To knock out UL courses

@eastcounty4605 I feel it's a lot different then both. You can transfer in more than 90, only 90 will apply towards degree. So yo can transfer in some harder classes and so more lower level classes at UMPI

Thank you for this information! I have military credits from my JST on top of having 24-32 college credits already. Should I apply to UMPI first to see how many credits I need to take, then go the ACE websites? After that then transfer my credits from study/straight line after seeing what I need to take. Indeed! Start by applying and getting a transfer credit evaluation, then hire us or track down free plans people post online to decipher which classes to take on Sophia/Study that match up to UMPIs requirements. Be ready for a 5-10% error rate, but you should land somewhere around 10-14 classes at UMPI after transferring Sophia/Study in!

Correct! Once you’re accepted and have a degree plan year (2024-2025 for example) you stay on that year and the policies true of that year typically apply to you all the way through.

I have already applied to UMPI. However, my high school transcripts are from Puerto Rico. They are certified, and UMPI has received them. If there’s any difference it’s marginal, I don’t think I could really say. Though I will say the multiple minors trend is silly, unless you know that for your specific goals it will make a difference. I think the BABA PM & IS is more meaningful.

@@CollegeHacked thank you for the reply. My research has led me to the BAS is a stem degree and science degree which in tech I am being told will out weigh the BaBa as it is an arts degree. I am close to both with 189 credits transferred in to umpi. The triple minor thing I think is really just letting us find the 10 classes for residency and getting the most out of those said 10.

All depends on your major and how your transfer credit applies to your new major! If the classes you took already overlap, you’ll see them applied to the degree. If they don’t, you’ll max out your free electives and then they can’t apply any more credits beyond that. You can get more applied at UMPI by swapping your major to Liberal Studies.

I don't recommend UMPI for this reason because a lot of graduate schools won't accept you into their programs unless you received a business bachelor's degree with those accreditations. Regional accreditation is only the bare minimum.

Not very important. I disagree with those who say a lot of grad programs ask for these accreditations. Go look at the admissions requirements for the programs you’re interested in. Unless they are top 15 business schools, they won’t ask for it.
