You have an illegal joining of your third clause/third sentence which does not have a coordinating conjunction, so it is a comma splice, and it is a major error that would have you fail an essay in my class. You could correct it by adding "so" before the comma or by putting a semi-colon.

This couldn't be more accurate. Add that it's also very negative for anyone prone to depression or anxiety. it's fake book. No one shares what their life is really like, only the really bad, or the really good. I deleted my account, put up my email for a week so they could add me. I found out who my real friends were. Turns out, almost none of them.

I first watched this in high school. I'm a junior in college now. It's very true when he's says that college gave him a different out look on life. When you're in high school you're around your friends almost 24/7 so of course you and your friends will share the same ideas in the small world you have only lived in. But once you get away from them, you will start to develop your own personality and views and your friends will too. Seriously, you will start to realize just how different you and your friends are even though you thought y'all was just a like back in high school. What I'm trying to say is that, don't expect to still be friends with the people you graduate from high school with. I know it's hard to even imagine if you're in high school now but I'm telling you...you'll be lucky to have even ONE friend from high school after high school.

As someone still only in his 40s I can tell you: if you bump into your HS or college friends once in a while that's fine, but don't stress about keeping up with them all the time. The friends you need are just those physically near you. Even with them it's enough to just have casual conversations and the occasional get-togethers. Also just think about all the stuff they have to deal with on a day-to-day basis. They also have families, just like you. They also have careers, just like you. You are just an extra spice for them but not their main concern. So don't stress out too much about not keeping up with them.

I graduated in 2010, and feel like I'm one of the only people out there who remained friends with the people I was friends with after high school. I may have added new people to my social circle since then, but never subtracted. I guess it helps though that after high school, none of us moved out of the city so really there was no reason for us to end our friendships or stop seeing eachother.

Looking back, I've made far closer friends at work and Church than I ever did in college or high school. In college and high school, there's unfortunately an unspoken expiration date to many of the friendships you make. Meanwhile, in the adult world, you have far greater control over where you live and settle down, so your friendships are more likely to be longer-lasting and more authentic. Of course, making friends is also more difficult, as the social outlets you once had in days past no longer really exist, especially with the advent of hybrid/remote work.

Love the subtly in this about the social media. "We'll always be friends on facebook" but then when it shows he doesn't have a job he says "Friends on LinkedIn" since who you are in contact with on their is a reflection on your career path. At this point he's only looking to gain something, not even friendship anymore.

I am class of '94 and am lucky enough to still have the friend/brother I went all through school with and still have a couple that I met in elementary school. A lot of this song is true but sometimes if your lucky you'll find a good friend that will always be there for you, but you have to always be there for them as well. Friendship works both ways, the trick to it is figuring out which ones are true friends and which ones are just taking advantage of you and for that I have no advice, it's sort of trial and error 'til you figure it out. You'll lose friends and you'll make new ones, but it's not the end of the world either way. Good luck

I graduated in 2011. There were some people in high school that I could have been great friends with if I wasn't too lazy and terrified of social situations to put in the necessary effort back then. I don't miss high school and I've forgotten a lot about it. I have some regrets because I could have made it a much better, more memorable experience than it was. I didn't even start turning into the person I am today until about a year after graduating. Life is good now. I have great friends and a great girlfriend and I'm overall very satisfied with my life. I guess I kinda feel like a dick for letting the 2 good friendships I had in high school slowly die over the years but overall, life is pretty good now. I've heard from other people that you usually don't meet your life long friends until after high school and that's how it worked out for me.

I've stayed in touch with my best friend since grade 8, it's been 10 years since we graduated. I'm the god parent to her baby, bride of honor in her wedding and she will be for mine. We had a few years in between where we didn't talk as much because of the distance, but we were always able to pick right up where we left off. I think that if people are meant to stay in your life, they will.

No joke, my best buddy in high school joined the military, got stationed in Korea, I didn't see him for 3 years, we got together when he got back, still the best of friends. The only thing you'll ever regret is the people you didn't meet, and the ones you never got to know as well as you wish you had. Fifteen years later I'm still best friends with one of my classmates from high school. It helps if your friends don't move away permanently. Even if they go away for college, if they come back it helps. If you really were friends with more than just a building you were stuck in for seven hours a day in common, then it shouldn't be hard to find things to do together. Its convenient to make a weekly routine to hang out instead of relying on random excuses to do stuff like bdays and xmas. Trying to come up with reasons to call them up to hang out gets old fast. You end up feeling like you're bothering them just cuz you're lonely. Do simple things like watch tv/movies, play video games, introduce your extended circles of friends, go drinking. It does take a lot of effort, but you'll be glad you did. That being said. A lot of the people you knew in high school were your friends only because you were all stuck together in the same place at the same time for seven hours a day, five days a week. This is also true of coworkers, college classmates, people you know in clubs, etc. When that artificial environment is no longer there to force you all together, its up to you to find a reason to still meet.

Having stable emotional attachments that aren't just coincidental because of family is very fulfilling. Humans naturally desire a sense of belonging. This would sate that desire without the temptation to fixate on any random social group that appears to accepts you, who could have beliefs and values that wildly contradict your own. Having one or more people who actively enjoy spending time with you is a huge boon to your self confidence and self worth. It can make you feel like you've done at least one thing right in your life if everything else is going wrong. True friends are the family that you choose rather than the one you just end up with.

I was 13 when I first saw this video. Now I'm 22. I'm still good friends with my best friend from that time, but this video rings true. She's a brilliant, successful academic. (She's probably the singularly smartest person I've ever met, and I know a lot of smart people.) I went to community college and I'm training to be a teacher in the same place we grew up. We're still close, but we've definitely gotten more distant over the years. Our lives are just very different.

That's kind of the point of the song, though. Friendships go both ways, and a good one generally appreciate over time with effort and investment. The one guy distanced himself, and the other went on to be successful. Success that could have been shared, if they hadn't been a fair weather friend.

Maybe the original was a bit more realistic, since it was before social media, so once you left your town, there was a real chance you wouldn’t see any of your friends again. Now, with Facebook and everything, it’s like, you can keep a sliver of it alive, but you know deep inside that it will never be the same.

If a friendship can only survive if you see and talk to them everyday, it wasn't much of a friendship to begin with. Most of the time people realize they are only friends with those around them because it is convenient. It may not be that way for both parties but as long as it is on one side, the friendship was doomed from the get go. Life is crazy and you will have less time with your friends and sometimes you may not see them for a long time. But if you really care about the friends in your life, make an effort. A small hello every now and again goes a long way to keep the lines of communication open. And if the friendship is true, then when you do finally get to see each other it will be like no time has passed at all. I'm 21, a junior in college, have friends away at university and some i don't speak to for months at a time- but I've maintained 3/4 close friends I've had since high school. And i still have a good friend since middle school who went to a different high school than i did who is now four hours away that i still talk to everyday. It's definitely not easy and I'm not saying every friendship you have since you were young is worth keeping- but if you do want to keep people in your life- it is definitely possible :]

Even opening pokemon cards, or assembling gunpla kits can have a good audience. Heck people like funny stuff I put up on instagram, but yes people will leave and omit why, and it's not worth pursuing a lack of closure from those types as time moves faster as we get older and are accustomed to handling idle time. Even downsizing gaming collection feels like a win as I get tired of some things, or simply acquire better stuff on sale.

This is probably one of the most accurate songs we ever heard... I graduated high school back in 2001 and most of the time I kept contact with a group of friends And even though we can't contact we barely see each other and it felt like every past year it was getting less and less that we talked.... Now when it comes to technology I support it in the fields of the medical field and the military field because they can save lives but when it comes to our society.. I think technology should have had a limit.. now a social media company like Facebook is supposed to keep in touch with our friends of family members but in my opinion I think it's separates people... Every time you want to see how a friend is doing that you haven't talked to you in a while you can just always say oh I just look at his Facebook page but back in my time we didn't have Facebook.. so every time that friends or family members get together they didn't take each other for granted and they appreciate it because they did know when the next time they're going to hang out and it's not because they stop liking each other everybody has different paths people go to different colleges different jobs... I think a lot of us knew that it was going to happen so we appreciate each other and the visits met so much to all of us.. also a lot of us didn't have cell phones we had used the land lines... And sometimes you get nervous because what if there parents answers the phone.. And you only have a certain amount a time to talk for example you know I remember me and my brother we were in high school and he had a girlfriend and I had a real friend we didn't have cell phones and my dad made a rule saying that we can only be on the phone for an hour... So I feel like the conversations meant a lot in relationships And also when it comes to school dances you know nowadays you have teenagers texting someone to dance and put back in the day if you wanted to ask somebody to dance you had to walk up and ask them on person...

Yeah, this is sadly quite true. I ended up being the friend that became distant. I first moved 300 miles away to a new city for my senior year (but a friend of mine said it would've been okay to live with her if I didn't want to move. We lived in a small town though. I witnessed generations of families living there but going nowhere as it's one of those 'it's all about who you know' type places. And I knew next to no one since we move around a lot. I thanked them but decided to go with my family). After high school we moved to a different state just for me to go to college. Due to bullshit polices at that school, I never attended, but either way, we were now even further. I dislike talking on the phone and I dislike almost all major social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, though I do have an account there; Instagram...). After MySpace tanked years back, that pretty much ended our conversations for the most part. Add in too an unsteady internet source and me being more worried about my life and now, it's going on seven years after graduation and I've barely spoken to my two high school friends. One of my friends has a child now and just got married. I congratulated her on Facebook as she'd also invited me to be in her wedding, which made me feel crappy for not keeping in touch. But I'm genuinely happy for her. But...we indeed are different. She's big on church and God. I dislike the mention of either of those. She's a grown woman with a husband and child, responsibilities. I'm still struggling to find my way with my new career choice and living at home (I've set a goal to be out by next year though. Oh, and how do you coo over your friend's child when you actually dislike kids and don't want any of your own?) Still though...I miss her. My other friend I've neglected even worse, probably because her typing skills are rather poor and online/typing is my preferred mode of communication. It gives you time to do other things while having a conversation. I'm quite dull on the phone. But this friend share's my namesake. I still have a Christmas bear she gave me back in 2005 with the To/From card attached and our names written. Even if she's a poor typist, I miss her too. But I don't fit in with either of them. I'm the anime nerd who's very interested as well in Japan as a whole (and suddenly dropped learning Japanese in favor of German...Everything I know about Germany comes from WWII, lol). I think if I revealed my full, true interests to them, they'd be scared off rather than just shrug it off (like my immense interest in BL/yaoi content, heh...). My current friends either share or at least accept my interests, but it's more than just anime. I and my old friends could probably have fun together as those two still speak but to plan a trip to get together...we'll, I managed to visit Canada; going for a visit to someone two states away has to be easier. But yeah...you really find yourself usually after high school and though the friends you made in those years are great, sometimes...things just drift apart or you/they are no longer the same person.

This summarizes my post high school depression pretty well. The thing is I never made friends in college. I am to shy to reach out to anyone. After I graduated high school my group of friends from high school still got together every Friday to hang out, but that slowly died off. Then my family moved away. So I don't really talk to anyone anymore. I feel like I am slowly going insane. If I died tomorrow no one would notice, and nothing would be lost. All I do is study and watch tv now. +James Parker Hey erm...you probably won't end up reading this comment, but I had to say, I've been there man. My high school crowd barely speak any more and I didn't really make friends at my university / college. The thing I wanna tell you though is, don't lose hope. I totally get you on the "dying tomorrow" thought-train, hell knows I got stuck in it for months, but I promise you, if you keep your spirits up it does get better in the end. Don't get me wrong it's hard, really hard actually - but you have to find happiness in yourself before anything else, if you yourself are happy, you become an attractive friend option to others and they'll reach out, and you'll even find yourself reaching out, because it won't be the be all and end all if this person doesn't want to be close. Sorry for waffling on, just trying say what I wish someone, anyone, could've told me a few years back, in the hopes it helps a tiny bit. Best of luck dude and hang in there!

You ever get that feeling that you want to go back to visit your high school but at the same time you don't want to.

I used to love to watch this before I graduated highschool. Now, 3 years after highschool it's already becoming so true. I barely talk to the guys who were my best friends during highschool. I'll occasionally tag them in a post on fb or message then. And I live a drive away from a lot of them. People change, you deprecate, but you will always have that bond with that person.

Man, what i wouldn't do to get that Freshman year back, now all I got is three years, and *POOF* gone. And if they pass at the same rate as Freshman year, it's gonna be a bummer.

If you're going to the same college it will be really easy to stay friends. If not, then you're gonna lose them.

I won't have to worry about this, because I had no social life in high school. My friends never wanted to hang out with me and didn't actually care about me. All I had were phony classroom buddies who left me alone every weekend and never texted me, so I will be graduating alone and flipping my middle finger on the way out.

To all the people watching this and thinking "holy crap, is this real", it could be. But it's not certain. I watched this before I graduated high school back in 2010, and I almost sobbed scared about this. It's been over five years and I've graduated college.... It didn't happen. My best friend in high school? He's still basically my brother. My other friends? Sure, the general "group" is weaker, but all the connections I wanted to keep, I kept. I made new friends in college, and although they don't really mesh, it's perfectly possible to keep your old friends as you make new ones. The secret is pretty much most secrets in life... giving a shit.... constantly. So don't worry people! This song does NOT have to be a prophecy!

It is sad. But what most of us didnt realize was during highschool you are litterally funneled into a building 7 hours aday with shitloads of ppl yourage from all over the county. Once u graduate the excuse to see your freinds is gone. An if the bond isnt really strong just that inconvenience is enough for many freindships to wither away.

For all you graduates that became sad by this video, hear some advice from a college sophomore. For most of the year, I was depressed because I feared losing in touch with my hs friends. However, by the end of the year, I realized that most of my fears were ridiculous. I stayed in touch with most of my close friends (I say most because I lost touch with one of my best friends who was bringing me down) and have hung out with them this summer. The people that stay in your life are meant to :)
