It's really hard to fathom. Couple that with it being a major feeder sport to MMA (pankration), which is one of the most viewed sports in the world now. GSP, Jon Jones, Khabib, probably half of those in the GOAT conversation either have wrestling as a base, or make major use of its techniques. The other half of the GOAT conversation know wrestling defense. And I offer this - that there is no other sport more necessary than wrestling (e.g. BJJ, boxing, Mooey Thai). Some may be equally useful, but none more useful.

@@executivelifehacks6747 imo, it’s the most crucial aspect of MMA. Doesn’t matter how good your submissions are or your striking technique is if your opponent is on top of you and punching you. Fights like Usman v Colby or DC v Jones wouldn’t be held in the same breath without considering every single one of them has the wrestling skill to implement their striking. And also, it’s the hardest to learn/master. There’s no other sport on earth like wrestling

Mr. Sonnen, you are 100% right about quite a bit of your perspectives in my opinion. You are a very big personality and have great insight on this sport that I love. Would you be willing to be a louder more visible force to bring opinions to the fore? If not you who? Additionally, in military aviation in our post mission debriefs we distinguish between Measures of Performance vs Measures of Effectiveness. This speaks to one of your big points about the appraisal of coaching staffs. If an athlete wants to maximize the impact of their training they ought to clearly define the MOEs and MOPs before they engage a live adversary. This way upon review they have a time to ID alibis, and will evaluate a fight in compartmentalized bins of their performance vs their outcomes. This way coaching staffs and athletes can examine with better precision the outcome of a fight. Sorry for the long comment…

I see you have acted before, not really in voice acting though. You should tell us what Lyon's Pride is about. But with your distinctive voice and story telling ability I see it could being great with the right material. You're a good looking guy but I mostly listen while not looking at the screen, and there is a ton of 3d animated stuff for kids that you'd be great for IMO. Alternatively I guess there is live action which you've done and I should see but I suspect there would be too much gutless, by the numbers attempt to typecast, to define you with what the public know. Or maybe I'm way off with all this. But I think if there is something where Chael can talk every so often, broken up by other stuff that happens, it would hold interest. Hell, we listen to tales of burgers, and chicken sandwiches and it has 0 to do with MMA. Just like Arnie didn't let being Mr Olympia define him. Here Chael is doing commercials for Manscape and I feel like a Tarrantino (not him specifically but doing the same basic thing in identifying talent) could pluck him off the discount rack and do something great with him like he did with the likes of Carradine and Travolta. I get that Sonnen Silva 1 was one of the all-time great fights and the punches and the kicks were 50% of the commodity but the other 50% was the buildup and that was unique. Sure Conor has sold more but there is no one better at being Chael than Chael.

Chael, You need to lead and promote wrestling (more weight classes, six is seriously lacking) with other key influencers to the Olympic committee. Also, there needs to be a third form of wrestling (Folk Style) added to international wrestling at least in the" Worlds", rest of the world would panic if they have to resist being turned from multiple techniques and positions. We are all tired of body locks and attempted roll thru or back exposures, when bottom opponents' main focus is sprawl, stall and resist back exposuree and leg-lace turns, free style and greco lack the geater dynamics of grappling. Also improve / correct the referee's calls on passivity. Love the show!
