Thanks to Burkha and all the Wisemen for highlighting a very very important issue. It is extremely important for the courts, specially the Supreme Court, the only last hope for the common man, to be completely free from political interference. Unfortunately, the mainstream media doesn't even touch such issues. Thank god; we have social media like Mojo. When the Parliament, the Executive and even judiciary fail, the fourth estate MEDIA is the only hope to build public opinion on such issues. Hopefully one day the 'public opinion' will embolden the judiciary to be completely independent drives the govt to stop interference. Many thanks to the gentlemen Mr Nariman, Justice Lokur and Mr Punchu for taking on this important issue.

Excellent story, Barkha. Thank you. And thanks to Justice Lokur, Mr. Fali Nariman and Mr. Pacchu for the brilliant Op-ED in Indian Express. You have brought out a very important issue ailing our justice system: the political pressure that hinders selection of right people, and, thereby, hurting the justice delivery system.

As rightly said ' we lost a diamond that should've sparkled on the crown'. If it wasn't politics then what is it ? Justice is denied to justice. My salute to Justice Muralidhar

Thanks so much Barkha for bringing up this topic with the the views of such great luminaries in the Judiciary. Mr.Muralidhar was very honest, sincere and upright and his various judgements have earlier irked many unwanted elements who are mainly politicians. The questions raised by these great people tothe Collegium holds much water and has really stirred up a hornets nest ? Every good citizen hold righteous uppermost and is patriotic in their own way. Why should many politicians and Judges deviate from this issue. As the great saying goes criminals and politicians always despise Logic ! Jai Hind !

Out of almost 1100 High Court judges in India, Cry for only one judge. Why? Out of 1100 judges only one judge was competent. If that is so it would raise another serious question on collegium. Advocates practicing in Orissa High Court could never see the greatness in him. I smell there is some else behind the screen.

Justice Lokur was also part of collagium at some point in time. He would also have fallen in line to make unanimous recommendation. Only collagium member who put his foot down on a worthy judge being made part of recommendation, is justice R. F. Nariman.

Thanks Barkha for the Debate... I am not from the fraternity of judges, yet we as common being, acknowledge the importance of Courts and Judges. Although we don't know how competent Mr. Murlidharan was, but we have a feeling that that sanctity of courts & Judges is under threat. The role of judges in a democracy cannot be overstated. - They serve as the guardians of justice - Upholding the rule of law - Protecting individual rights - Ensuring that the principles of fairness and equality are upheld Their impartiality and independence from political influences are crucial in maintaining the checks and balances necessary for a healthy democratic system. - By interpreting and applying laws - Reviewing the constitutionality of legislation I think judges contribute to the stability and functioning of society. Their decisions set important precedents that guide the course of legal interpretation and ensure that the rights of citizens are upheld. In essence, judges play a vital role in preserving the core values and principles upon which a democracy thrives. Please offer my gratitude, hellos, hugs, and compliments to FN saab, Lokur, and Panchu saab... for their efforts in starting the debate and steering it in the right direction. A hearty and very big thanks to you as well.

Can we have the track record of the Collegium system from the last 30 years since it began. Is it only this particular case where the collegium has " failed" ? Is it so simple to say that " politics" has played a part as though the system was crystal pure before this date ? Is it not incredible that this charge has suddenly come up now ? How political is the timing of this attack by the three OP'ED writing judges? Let us grant that Justice Muralidhsr is a sterling judge. But how many times in the history of the last 30 years have one group of judges come out and thrown what is clearly straight innuendo? Is this an attack on the collegium or the political govt ? Has the collegium never played favorites before? If there was ever politics involved, is it the first time this is happening? Someone should flip this and find out deeper and hidden agendas if any. Love for Modi is not a disease known among these folks. Are they attacking him in an orchestrated manner ? We need empirical evidence and a pattern to emerge. Else, this can well be a selective outrage despite it being a legitimate issue nevertheless.

I am not against BJP or against Congress, I am pro-people ... we all knew for sure that all Govt try to control the Constitutional bodies and almost all our institution has been compromised, we need the reset.... as soon as politician come to power and he became "Master" and treat people as their slaves, do we need the prove that the politician + Businessmen + godmen + Ghoondaas + IAS/IPS(constitutional bodies) working together for their own benefits. It is the timing or not to suit political gain, if you remember Anna movement was also before elections, but we as common person shall be interested in cleaning the mess and democracy shall deliver and work for commoners. Raising the hidden issues is the core responsibilities of opposition, and there should be limit to the loyalty toward political parties too, we are not for political parties but they are for serving us.... I am not saying you are endorsing any party.....

If the Constitution of India is a "political document", then the Supreme Court is likely to play politics while interpreting the Constitution as well in appointing judges !! Judges get appointed as per the Articles of the Constitution, politics shall/ may play out !! Justice Muralidhar and Justice Kureshi not making it to the Supreme Court is the loss of "justice" , people seeking "justice" have suffered at the hands of the Judges and politicians ruling the country at this point of time.
