+KC Nwaneri Yeah, the 90's overall was not a good time to be a comic book enthusiast. I too loved the X-Men cartoon and tried to keep up with the comics but eventually just stopped and just stuck with Wolverine's main comic. The X-Men stories in the late 90's was so convoluted and overstuffed with superheroes in one book that I just lost interest.
@InjectTestCricketInMyVeins9 жыл бұрын
+DustingBread Schnepp is spot on when he say all those tie-ins are very off putting. I currently collect 22 books every month but i started with more than 30. Every month i am debating myself to not let go of another book. And every month i end up deciding to let go off a book. One individual series for each major hero, one team book of those major heroes, and one team book of the minor heroes. None of them being connected should be the way forward. Also making them cheaper. Digital copies are cheaper and we don't have to use physical space to store them. I spend closer to $200/250 (NZD) every month. That's huge dent in my wallet. If i didn;t love comics as much as i do i wouldn't spend more than $30/40 a month. That's about 5/6 physical copies but if i collected digitally that would be at least 9/10 books.
@SuperShanko9 жыл бұрын
Same thing with me and DC cartoons. Loved the cartoons and all that stuff, but could never get into the comics. I mostly prefer to read manga since it's usually "one artist" + "one straight story" + "It ENDS" and leave random one off stories for movies or whatever. It's probably why I'm able to read Injustice though since I know that will only go for so long, and has no connections to outside stories.
@joelhassig60999 жыл бұрын
I stopped collecting comics for many of the same reasons Schnepp is ranting about. I remember very well all the hype over McFarlane's split from Marvel and his establishment of Image comics - and all the hype surrounding it, and the almost overnight boom in the popularity of comic book collecting, and all the multiple covers. Collecting became a chore and stopped being fun.
@Kaste119 жыл бұрын
+KC Nwaneri That is simple not true. The reason people doesn't buy comic books is because comic books nowdays suck. Have you ever checked manga? They are the "comic books" in Japan and millions of people across the world READ them. One Piece just broke the World Guiness Record of "Most copies published for the same comic book series by a single author". Manga is at it's peak and you can only read them. And remember: Almost all famous mangas have their own anime in the television. And people still prefer the manga and the sales are NOT going down. This is the living proof that the problem is not the medium, it's the quality. Nowdays Marvel and DC put out 50 different titles per month! That is ridiculous. You want to read batman and you have to go through 15 different titles and 15 different art styles. On top of that most of the comic books have one different story per issue! There are no story arcs. This not the 60s any more. Comics need story arcs. 20 issues, 30, 50, 100 issues. It doesn't matter. Make a story that will take a year to end. Not 50 random fights and call it a day. There is no real continuity, there is no character development. Even the fighs are nothing compared to manga. You get some generic stance of the hero punching and kicking simultaneously 4 different people. What? Who fights like that? It is like there are missing 15 panels in the fights. Also, you pick up a comic book and there are 23 different super heros in every issue. And they all end up being supernumerary. Everything is wrong with comic books. That is why the sales are going down. They need to evolve.

Not saying it's a bad thing I liked man of steel I thought it was pretty good. An if you look at marvel movies each one is a different type of movie but share one theme of being jokey an fun while still maintaining its intensity. So to say civil war is copying Nolan because it's going to be more serious is factual not true because it still will not be lost in the general theology of marvel films which vastly contrast DC. #PeaceKing

Its still sad that some people are still hating on Synder who didn't even bash Marvel in the first place. It was just a bunch of news outlets that took Synder's words out of context and twisted them to make it seem like Synder was bashing Marvel. Synder called Antman "flavor of the week" but that doesn't mean he's calling it crap. Also Synder even stated that he was excited to see Antman. I'm a little disappointed that Sebastion Stan take jabs at DC but whatever. It makes me root for DC even more to blow everyone away to silence the DC hate.

They also have like movie and TV stars come in to sign things every so often too. It's great, and ever since it opened, no one goes to any other cafe'a. I actually think there's some validity to the Blue Beetle/Booster Gold film rumor. Last year, before Arrow started shooting it's 3rd season, the CW put out a casting call for a character named Daniel who sounded a lot like Blue Beetle. For awhile, the audience thought it was a disguised casting call for Ted Kord. We later found out it was actually Ray Palmer/The Atom. A little while later, the showrunner gave an interview where he said they had intended on using Blue Beetle, but WB/DC told them they couldn't because they had plans for the character. They offered him The Atom instead. Earlier this year, when Legends of Tomorrow was revealed, the character breakdowns featured a character who sounded a lot like Booster Gold. The character turned out to be fellow time traveler, Rip Hunter. Last month, when asked about Booster Gold potentially showing up on Legends of Tomorrow, the showrunner said you'd have to wait a good long time to see him on the show. The way he says that feels like he was told he couldn't use the character. He also said, "Perhaps Booster is being groomed for bigger things". Kinda interesting that we're now hearing a rumor about a potential film starring two characters who were recently kept out of TV series because the studio had other plans for them.

I agree mostly with Jon's rant about comic books but I also think the reason why people don't read comics is because of the price buildup. For instance I am/was reading the new Starwars comics but after while I couldn't afford them because there are like ten of them now, and while I thought about just subscribing to one story line, one I'd still be spending over 5 dollars every other week, and two I feel like I have to read all of them or nothing. As a high schooler 5 dollars every other week starts to add up.

I do believe finding a way to cut the cost of a comic would help, reducing the amount of pages or even going back to the cheaper paper, getting a comic down to a price of $1.75 an issue would more than likely help the sales, you go to the comic shop and spend $40 a month for say 8 titles average 15 minutes of reading time each, most people without the extra disposable income would think, for that I could pay for Netflix and a couple of cheap video games for much more hours of entertainment value, as John mentioned getting a book down to $1 for 10 pages I think would help.

John, remember Sony forced Sam Rammi to put in the extra villains like Venom before shooting and look at that.

When I think of comics, I think of cool characters on cheap newsprint for under a buck. There's just something about the smell and texture of classic comics. Comics lost me when they started printing on glossy stock, cut the pages and jacked the prices up. It went from a fun pastime to a major investment. The 70s and 80s will always be the Golden Age of comics for me.

I was given a huge collection of xmen, spiderman, deadpool comics I have barely touch. But I will dive into them and am happy for the digital downloads rather than paper.

My favorite thing about Man of Steel is that it takes itself seriously. Despite the fact that I like the Marvel movies, I really wish Marvel let it's movies have be serious for a few minutes without a snarky undercut.

Mr. Sinister was mentioned in X2. Why the heck hasn't he been a movie villain yet?

I'm a new comic reader (started about two years ago) and I'm verry happy with the direction Marvel had gone. Secret Wars and all the other things that Hickman does are awesome. The only problems I have is that there are too many spider people and the new Guardians comics are bad.

Woootz! Electro Woman and Dyna Girl!! I LOVED that show when I was a little kid. I remember strapping this TV antenna switchbox thingy on my wrist and pretending to be Dyna Girl, stopping bad guys all over the house. It may have been my intro to loving super heroes. This, Isis and Wonder Woman. Yeah I'm old. I highly suggest catching some EW and DG on KZbin, total cheeze but awesome stuff!!!!!

Magneto moving the chess piece I think was meant to show the cure was temporary. In the flashbacks in days of future past it shows wolverine kill jean grey. So you have to assume in the future parts of that movie that magneto got his powers back. Major plot hole with professor x being alive though.

I assumed The New 52! Justice League comics were sort of necessary reading when for any of the core member's titles...
