Jeff gets double dared by a friend, Woody, to do some dangerous stunts, but when Jeff's mother finds out she makes him promise not to take the dares anymore. But he does one more time, despite Lassie's warning not to, and he gets hurt and comes close to drowning.
TRIVIA: This is the first time we find out a bit more about Jeff’s father when Ellen tells Jeff that his father gave his life to protect the 20 men in his squadron (Korean War), and gives that as an example of courage.
ADDITIONAL TRIVIA; Lee Erickson played the part of the boaster Woody, but this wasn't his first time appearing in the Lassie series. He co-stared in Season 1 with Tommy Rettig in the very first Lassie episode "Inheritance" (1954) playing the annoying son of the heir. His next appearance was in Season 3 in "Transfusion", "Challenge" and " Local Elections" (all 1956), and then "Champion" (1957), and "Transition" (1957) - all under the character name of Woody. He began his acting career in the movies Devil's Canyon (1953), and swiftly moved into TV drama series acting. His next opportunity to be on the big screen was when he was 13 playing Charlie Foy in the movie "The Seven Little Foys (1955) which starred Bob Hope. He continued to appear in a number of hit TV series - western, comedy, drama, and animal, including "Make Room for Daddy", and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents". His last credit is for the TV series "National Velvet" in 1962 playing a stable boy. After that no more TV or movie credits can be found for him.
