I don't see the outer ring to collimate the primary mirror. Only when I close the telescope lid. Can that be right? I have the TS Optics RC 8".

Just received my TSRCKOLLI. Worth every penny. So simple to use. Everything on the video was spot on on how to use the tool. If you own a RC scope you would be a fool not to have one of these collimators in your possession.

How critical is a secondary to primary mirror distance? You mentioned that the screw should be loosened a bit, but many sources mention that this one shouldn't be adjusted at all.
@teleskopservice
@teleskopservice 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Sebastian, the distance is indeed important for RCs! It should be in the range of +-1mm from the distance given by the mirror specifications. but here for the collimation, i opened the screw just a fraction of a turn to give the outer collimation screws a bit of "room" to operate.

If you say the W is set for collimating refractor telescopes, I'm wondering how this is gonna work?

Hello, I have a few questions. Is your view of the collimator when illuminated red actually that big? Or is that an effect of your camera lens? I am viewing with my naked eye and the collimator is quite small, with the circle and dot being even smaller. I am guessing I'm pretty much aligned with the secondary. Next question, regarding the primary collimation, I can't see the white ring on the outside at all, so there is no way to balance it. I have no extenders and the focuser is completely racked in. Any thoughts?
@teleskopservice
@teleskopservice Жыл бұрын
Hi, the view is indeed quite small. In the video it is magnified. Yes, i heard about this issue with some RCs. In newer designs, the baffles are extended a small amount wich blocks the light. This is a good approach to block the stray light but unfortunatly then you cant use this "light ring" for adjustment anymore :(

@@teleskopservice Thanks so much for the quick reply. Sad to hear that it wont work for this RC. I guess my other option is a different collimation tool. I've got an artificial star, but I do back yard astro and can't get enough distance in order to get the scope in focus.

@@teleskopservice So which collimator do you recommend in that case you don't see the outer ring?
@teleskopservice
@teleskopservice 11 күн бұрын
@@indysbike3014 www.teleskop-express.de/media/pdf/TSRCKOLLI-G2_de.pdf Page 7. The light ring is either visible or not; this has nothing to do with the adjustment device. You can remove the aperture tube and use the secondary mirror spider for orientation, but it also works as described in the instructions.

Thanks, this is a useful video, however I am a bit confused about loosening the centre screw on the secondary. While it eliminates having to adjust the other screws, can't that affect the secondary to primary mirror distance?

Reduce the distance of the collimator to the back of the scope. This may entail removing extension rings if installed.

@@BillCCD I have removed everything. Even if I remove the focuser I can't see the outer ring, but I can see it, if I look at an angle (10-20 deg) from optical axis, but this is not the position for collimating primary mirror.

Do you need to adjust the tilt of the focuser? Why is a tilt plate available for those telescopes?
@teleskopservice
@teleskopservice 3 жыл бұрын
Because the focuser is "connected" to the primary mirror, you will always change the tilting of the focuser when adjusting the primary. With the small 6" this was not a problem, but it can be. Then you have to iterate multiple times through the process until you get a good result. That can be annoying and the tilt plate can help (because it decouples the two elemets)

Nice video. Out of curiosity this does or doesn't work on edgehd telescopes? Looking at the website it says as long as they have a center dot on the secondary mirror
@I_Spaced_Out
@I_Spaced_Out 3 жыл бұрын
It won't. But Edge HD telescopes are much easier to collimate anyway. Just point at a bright star in the sky, defocus the star so it looks like a donut. Adjust any of the 3 screws for the secondary mirror that corresponds with the offset shadow in the middle to push it or pull it back to the center. And that's all there is to it.

Oldschool like.. CS & Thx
