Thanks to Collin Raye and this song, on March 27, 1995, I started taking it one day at a time. Since then, not a single drop of alcohol has passed my lips. Thank you.

1083 days here. Was a black out drunk for 23 years. honestly never would have or could have stopped till I admitted I was helpless.. the Lord took it away after my last bad blackout, that morning I prayed that prayer was the beginning of my new life. All glory goes to Jesus, my quitting did not come from my end that's for sure. I've not had the desire since.

@@merlin8675309 Yup, just stop. Lord gave me a daughter back in 2010, a week to the day before she was born was the last time I had a drink, 14+ years later and 4 sons, my only regret is not stopping sooner, the shite ruins your mind. But people won't quit unless they seriously desire it, I didn't want my kid growing up like me so it made it easy for me to stop. I praise the Lord Jesus for giving me something worth caring and living for.

A gut wrenching song. This is everything I would like to say to my ex wife. I was a drunk, a dope fiend, and an abusive man. The Lord saw fit to help me break the cycle and 23 years later, here I am. Angi, I'm sorry. I was a complete ass hat and a real bastard. I can't fix the past but I can promise to be your biggest fan. You have the life you deserve now. For that, I am grateful. For you I only want whats best. I hope you have all of that and more now.

"Sorry that I cried when I talked to you last night". What a devestating line. He's completely broken. Apologizing, not for making HER cry, but for his own heart breaking and how it might have affected her. My eyes water everytime I hear that line. IMO that's the most incredible lyric in country music.

This was my dads favorite song. He died yesterday and its with a heavy heart 💔 that i gotta say he was only sober in the hospital bed. This song seems to be telling his story. But my mother died eleven years ago and he wasnt the same. He missed my mom so much that he drank himself to his early and lonely death. He pushed my siblings and i away and let the alcohol take over. My heart hurts because there wasnt a happy ending and hes been so miserable for so long ill never see him sober again. Ive clung to that hope for so long and its gone. Beautiful song. Thank you

Going on 6 years sober. There was a time I thought it would never happen but pulled it all together when my son who just turned 12 came to live with me. He asked me once if I drank. I broke down and he was the first person I admitted to that I was an alcoholic. I told him I'm addicted to it and I don't know if I could stop. He looked out the car window then looked back at me and said you'll be okay daddy. He was right. It took so much effort but we turned out okay. Still brings me to tears how a child could understand and give reassurance... No judgement just love.

I’m not a recovering alcoholic myself, but the Lord knows I’ve seen far too people who have been, so I have no doubt that recovery is a long, hard road and that, occasionally, people will stumble. I looked different from anyone in AR. 3 large white men pulled up behind me in one of those big full size trucks. I was nervous. But I was wrong because I judged a book by its cover. This song came out around the time I took my last drink. Last month, I hit 24 yearsof sobriety. That thirst never goes.away, but you can learn to control it. I still want a drink at times, but Inkmow one would be too many, and two will never be enough. In one night, I lost my girlfriend and child, and my future was forever changed. I spent 4 months in the ICU, went through a dozen surgeries, had to fight a TBI,.and spent 2 years in physical therapy,.and 9 months of speech therapy. I drank because of the pain, physical to a point, but the emotional and mental anguish is what drove me to it. The irony of this is, it was because the other driver had been drinking at a.party, and no one took his keys, or even tried to stop.him deom leaving. We both lost something that nighr. He lost 10 years of his life, with his wife and son, being there for the birth of his daughter, and being with them for 9 years, while he sat in prison. The hardest thing I ever.did was forgiving him. I visited him 2 months before his parole hearing, came back for hiss hearing, and spoke.in his favor while there. 3 weeks later, when he was released,.I drove his wife and kids up, to pixk.him up,.at the gate. He is the person Incall, when the call is too much,.because he knows fhe6 stakes, and I am his call when he needs that hand up, and someone to share the fight with. What changed my life, and put me on the path I'm on now was my friends and family, setting up a meeting with the ee recipients of some of her organs. It was hearing her heart, giving someone else life, and her asking me what she would say,.if she saw.me like this, that turned me around. 24 years later, I hope.that I am a.man she could.be proud of. Her and our unborn child, that I would still give.anything to hold.

@@Milepost93Productions I'll ad it it was the hardest thing I've ever done. But, it was the right call. It came down to one thing he said, while we were talking, me sitting on my hands, in both back pockets. Because the desire to beat the hell out of him was still there. What he said was, I wish I had better friends all those years ago. The kind that would have beaten me down, to get my keys, or disabled my truck, so I would have stayed. And his tears were real. In that moment, I was looking at a possible future. One that showed me that I was ONE decision from sitting where he was. All that anger vanished, because I saw me sitting there. Both of us were in a prison, one made by man, the other made by my own choices. Gained a brother that day. One that stood at my wedding, one that Inwas there with his kids in the waiting room, when their youngest was born, and that me and my wife stood with them for their 25th vow renewal. Still rather have my girl and my kid. Even if it hadn't worked out. Because you always what if, and wonder. But, I gained thenkijd of friend I can't call for bail in the middle of the night. Because he'd be sitting there with me, helping figure out how we'd tell our wives why we ended up there. For me, it honors her memory.

@@kimberlymohler1849 find a friend who's been there, and ask them to be your call. They know how much there.is to lose, and will be there to help you through it. I remember the 2 year mark. Wasn't easy, but I had friends that helped me through it. They tell you it's like day at a time, and usually, that is true. But sometimes it goes to one minute at a time, when the call is at its strongest. Prayers.and well wishes sister. All I can do from.here, but I hope they help. You are.strong enough, as those first 2 years prove. You slipped and fell. Pick yourself back up, and climb back on the wagon. Just reach out, and someone will be there, offering a hand up.

Back when music was good. I am in my late 30s, but in h.s., it was music from the 50s to 70s that kept me going. I also listened to country and techno, enjoyable techno and country, from the 80s and 90s, songs that actually mean something. Not all songs today are bad, but most, sadly, just do not have that soul anymore, and that is very unfortunate. Music is in us all, and some songs are just meant to be silly, but at least put effort if you decide to compose anything.

Collin Raye is certainly the least recognized singer. It's been a year since I discovered his music classics, and I must say that I have never seen a singer with as much talent as him. I could see Peter Quill singing to his songs in the next Marvel movie. Maybe it's just me, but I think Collin Raye deserves to be known by the general public. He far surpasses the new singles of today's artists.

Sometimes there are no more second chances. As a country radio dj in my hometown, I used to spin this tune by request a dozen times a week. 30 years later, I lost the love of my life after drinking a gallon of homemade hooch that was as much undistilled methanol as alcohol causing a psychotic break, the last of my drunken blackouts and a suicide attempt. Haven't touched a drop since. Can't even look at it, much less crave it. I will always crave her and miss the beautiful life we had together before that night. She remains the love of my life. "Without you, baby I'm not me." True now and forever. Blessings to everyone here for whom this song is more than just some of the most poignant storytelling ever set to music, but a living portrait of regrets for things that can't be undone. I miss you, babe. Always.

That was 30 yrs. ago. I quit drinking in 1992 and I haven’t touched a drop since, along with the pot and other stuff. I’ve been sober for almost 100 days and I feel so much better. I didn’t think I could do it. The truth is I couldn’t. I went to church to get deliverance. I didn’t tell anyone why I was there. They didn’t know me. God told them. I walked out a free woman that day. The power of deliverance through Christ made me free. Praise God. I love this song for so many reasons. ❤

I got 81. I feel different without it. But I had to stop. I just hope I can save my marriage. She’s bipolar

Everything will be fine, you can do this. I am with you, you know that, throughout all of the ups and downs in life. I am quick to forgive and forget, it's not important and I trust you . ❤

Moved back to Little Rock in spring of 2022 to escape years of abuse by a narcissistic father. I just wish my brother joined me.

Here we are all these years later and what a classic. Just sitting here thinking he needs to redo this one with an orchestra. Sings with such passion it’s as if he sings from his soul. And Love can truly do that to someone and sadly often we so want a do over but that other person changed. But without them they are truly not themselves.
