I don't know if Reba will ever read this comment, but back in 1989, I was on the USS Lexington (AVT-16) out of Pensacola Florida. I was dating a man who was a marine. He was the greatest love of my life, and at the time, I didn't know it. Every day for the last 32 years I have regretted not staying in touch with him. Military life goes on, and like the song says, "Sometimes life gets in the way". I tried finding him some years ago, but learned he had passed away while deployed. There's not a day that goes by I don't think of Scott (Allen Stewart). I remember his '85 Ford Mustang with the t-top, it was a cream white with burgundy lower quarter panels and burgundy interior. We were at the same tech school in Millington, TN and were set to head out on the same day to our respectful duty stations (He was heading to Beauford, SC while I was going to the Lexington). He made the trip to Pensacola for Memorial Day weekend that year, and it was the most happiest days of my naval life. We wanted to get married, but he wanted to become an officer so badly. Military rules strictly prohibit you from being married if you attend Annapolis (West Point and the AF Academy have this same strict rule), as they want you to focus on your military career during your time in the academy. I never had the opportunity to find out if he had attained his dream of becoming an officer. The first time I heard this song, and saw the video was when it premiered on CMT back in 1992. In an instant I was transported back to that weekend, and when I saw the A-4 in the background with "USS LEXINGTON AVT-16" PLAIN AS DAY ON THE SIDE I LOST IT!!! I battled breast cancer last year (going on one year cancer free... yes.... I was diagnosed, treated and BEAT CANCER'S ASS IN ONE YEAR), and during that whole time, I felt this presence with me... and as God is my witness... I swear it was Scott. It's like he never stopped loving me, but he was willing to wait until it was my time to be reunited with him. I pray that some day in the distant future, I am. Thank you Reba. Thank you Vince. Thank you both for this song, more than you will ever know. Signed, a life long fan.

Looking back over the years Of All the things I've always meant to say But words didn't come easily So many times through empty fears Of all of the nights I tried to pick up the phone So scared of who might be answering You try to live your life from day to day But seeing you across the room tonight Just gives me away Cause the heart won't lie Sometimes life gets in the way But there's one thing that won't change I know I've tried The heart won't lie You can live your alibi Who can see you're lost inside a foolish disguise The heart won't lie Long after tonight Will you still hear my voice through the radio Old desires make us act carelessly Long after tonight, after the fire After the scattered ashes fly Through the four winds blown and gone Will you come back to me? You try to live your life from day to day But seeing you across the room tonight Just gives me away Cause the heart won't lie Sometimes life gets in the way But there's one thing that won't change I know I've tried The heart won't lie You can live your alibi Who can see you're lost inside a foolish disguise The heart won't lie

Having served 11 years in the military, I know what it’s like to have feelings for someone else in service. It can be quite difficult due to the amount of moving and just the sheer nature of the job, but you do create great memories even if the relationship doesn’t get serious. So while “the heart won’t lie”, you’re conscience should be wise enough to know when things aren’t working out. At the time it will suck, but in time you’ll have great memories and move on.

Was said beautifully. I seen your last name at just a glance at first and thought you had the same name as my maiden name then I noticed that there’s an i in your last name and ours doesn’t have the i in ours ( yours- Cruise and ours Cruse).
@brandoncruise63983 жыл бұрын
@ Vickie Poppen it’s interesting that you mention that because I’ve done research on my family name. There’s about 12 different spellings of it going all the way back to the 1700s. The I didn’t appear until the mid to late 1800s. With that said, several more recent ancestors had it spelled without the I. It’s a small world isn’t it lol?

My last clear memory of my Papa we were sitting in his living room and this song had just come out and he was talking about how much it moved him and how much he loved it. And now seeing the video, with the man in uniform, as my Papa was a veteran, it's even more special. I love you and I miss you, Papa :o)

I miss these kinds of songs when they actually put heart I not what they wrote, and actually experienced what were writing about. They didn't just write music for the sake of making money like today's artists do.

Mrsean Stevenson You hit the nail on the head! I am so glad I grew up listening to "these oldies" as they're now called. Songs like these are truly music. Rarely, today, do you hear a song that doesn't repeat the same line twelve times or isn't auto-tuned to death. Songs in the day" were heart-felt, told a story and just great to listen to. I can put it on the Oldies Country station and listen all day. My kids channel surf because they can't find a good song on the radio--I wonder why!

Gill is 6'6"...his size gives a certain quality and realness to a hard core Staff Sargeant… My pops finished WWII as a Staff Sargean and trust me, other than with my mother, he demanded and got respect from his children....but he always treated my mom like a southern belle, as she was...the rest of us ? well we found out quite quickly (especially the boys) that Pops said what he meant and meant what he said and there would be no questioning why....if we had more men/fathers like my Dad, these days there would be far less Social Justice Warriors and snowflake millennials always in need of protection
@Seek18784 жыл бұрын
@@perryarrington8446 Oh please. If anything, "social justice warriors" exist because of people like your dad, rigid authoritarian figures who demand respect when in reality it should be earned, demand mindless adherence to traditional roles instead of asking reasonable questions, it spawns rebellious behavior. Not even mentioning how boomers are the actual snowflakes who cry about everything, anyone who even uses the term "social justice warrior" outs themselves as far right reactionary using a lazy ad hominem with no hope of a constructive discussion...

I'm as much in love with this song now as I was when it hit the radio for the first time. I grew up on 90's country so I know I'm biased but omg what amazing voices. I'm blown away every single time I see Vince in uniform. They say all ladies love a man in uniform and I have to agree. He is so gorgeous in his regular clothes but seeing him like this makes me 🔥!! I also agree the uniform fits Reba well! I love this video!! ❤

I Love both of these entertainers. Reba, because her songs have touched my heart more than once through out the years, and Vince because he just seems to be genuine. ( There are not many celebrities you can say that about. I can count then on one hand, and strangely they all seem to be in the country genre, not a song group I listen to as a rule, but I find myself listening to more and more.)

Technically this song is about: 'The Heart Won't Lie' From: 'It's Your Call' (1992) A powerful duet combining the flawless vocals of Reba and Vince Gill, this 1993 song captures the emotions of former flames reliving the past almost 20 years later. Written by 'Bette Davis Eyes' singer Kim Carnes and Donna Terry Weiss, 'The Heart Won't Lie' was originally meant to be a duet with Kenny Rogers. Instead, Vince and Reba took the song to No. 1 for two consecutive weeks. theboot.com/top-reba-mcentire-songs/

In my humble opinion love for a spouse is “made up” but love for your children is true and genuine. I’d do anything for my wife, I’d die for her but if I did eventually I’d be replaced by someone else. I see your kids differently.
