RIP Lorrie Collins. This young woman, in the 1957-1958 time period, was without a shred of doubt America's greatest female rock and roll performer. The Collins Kids' singles may have failed to chart, and commercial "oldies" stations never played them, but 60 years later the best of them remain among THE GREATEST examples of nuclear-hot rockabilly ever recorded.

*That is some serious 'kick-ass rockabilly' BUT I have to give 'Wanda Jackson' her 'props' for vocals as well because she was right up there w/Lorrie!* ( *'Little brother' is the one who's 'driving' on the live performances...no question of that!* ___________ *I have no idea 'Why?' they weren't 'Smash Hits' ...on the other hand, almost no act was until you appeared on network TV like Sullivan or Steve Allen*

@@gerrynightingale9045 Yeah it's surprising to me that Larry Collins at least isn't mentioned in the same conversations as Clapton,Beck, and Page, Chuck Berry etc etc. It seems like he was well on his way to greatness from watching these old clips. And they were great as a duo as well as we can see here wich to me isn't actually one of their best performances
@gerrynightingale90452 жыл бұрын
@@williamsherman1089 *My info is scant, but it seems that Lorrie's boyfriend/husband became their 'Manager' by default and his ambitions did not go beyond 'Fairs/Hops/C & W venues, et al* ( *Very few 'C&W's acts & ''Hillbilly' type acts, no matter how good, ever made to the 'Big Leagues'without national prime-time exposure on Sullivan or the 'Tonight' show* ) *Even someone like Hank Williams needed National exposure from radio stations in the East & mid-West before his career became 'big-time'*

Shortly thereafter Lorrie married their manager, a much older man. And the act lost momentum fast into obscurity. Nada after the British Invasion. But Larry had quite a career as a sessions guitarist, and songwriter. "Delta Dawn."

The origins of boogie woogie rock and roll. The kid was really ahead of his time with his moves and stage persona . He was Angus Young and Chuck Berry rolled into one. She had a strong vocal presence. Cool stuff.

He’s a fantastic guitarist. Ahead of his time. His sister is a cutie and what awesome vocals she has. I stumbled on these two by accident. To think they were around before Hendrix, Clapton and Beatles. They should have got more recognition for their talents.

They sure flew under the radar in the 50's and 60's. God bless You Tube! I can sort of see why they might not have necessarily charted. They were clearly a visual act, and an unusual one at that -the poised, lovely big sister belting away with her excellent country voice, while little bro is dancing around her - an amazing bundle of energy. He did James Brown and Michael Jackson type moves, while playing a hell of a guitar. And they were both so young to have such talent. Extremely entertaining. Can't keep my eyes off them in these videos as they play and sing this great old rock and roll tunes.

Sock hops: in the gym, shoes off so thar the floor was not damaged. Teacher chaperones, coca cola for a dime. Funny lights, records played through the pa, compliments of some genius kid who knew how to connect the wires. Everybody out at 9 when the parents picked them up in the 1958 Pontiac station wagons (held 9). A different, and better, time.

Larry sneaks a fast kiss on her cheek at 0:52, then gives her a "little Devil Brother look" ! Funny and cute at the same time. Lorrie was about 16 and Larry 14 at this time. Incredible, and original talent at such young ages. The fun they were having together is infectious to the audience. TV was still young and finding its way at this time, otherwise "Lorrie&Larry" may have been the first teenage brother-sister TV show hosts, about 20 years ahead of "Donny&Marie"! Sad that it is so rare, because the "brother-sister" dynamic seems to work GREAT when it is right.

Only just discovered these kids by chance, larry was like chuck Berry, elvis, etc rolled in to one. very talented at such a young age, should have been known all around the world.
@jimmieroan98818 жыл бұрын
i think the most important part of this music is that it is real, not just these kids but the music from the older artists, what they sang and played is what you hear, not the edited version the music company put together to sell to todays society. its a shame most of todays music lovers will never hear real singers or musicians.

In alot of their videos they are faking it. But not here and on most of their other appearances on Town Hall Party, live and harder rockin' than anybody else up to this point with the possible exception of some of the more ferocious stuff coming out of New Orleans.
