Watching this gave me the chills. Even though my country (Chile) wasn't mentioned, all the mentions of the risks of being near the pacific ocean made me think "what would happen here?", and it would be more than a catastrophe. Our country is well known for the amount of earthquakes it has, tsunamis are a possibility too and i choose to not remember how all the non-existent shelter would fuck us up. Only private bunkers are a thing, latinoamerica in general would be an awful place to be. Anyway, awesome scenario! New sub.

This is a very interesting scenario. If this was a retelling of the Chicxulub Impact but in modern times; there would be a possibility some humanity would survive. Our mammal ancestors survived, we could too. But an impact event with a rogue planet the size of Mercury would not be survivable. So, governmental instructions would just be guidance specifically not to make the populace descend into anarchy prior to the event. Well done.

I'm interested to see what really could be done to ensure survival in this scenario. The entire crust would be melted by the energy of the impact, and nowhere on earth would be safe unless the shelters are some kind of self-sustaining sci-fi lava arc able to support their population for the millions of years it would take for the crust to reform
@papzaire4269 Жыл бұрын

During the height of the cold war, many governments would encourage their citizens to build their own fallout shelters in their basements/backyards. the truth is, none of those would be even remotely successful at protecting those inside. The government knew this, but encouraged it anyways to keep the citizens calm by making them think they could be the lucky ones to survive. It was a placebo of sorts to maintain order. and in the case of actual war... well that was a few less graves to have to dig. It wouldn't surprise me if it was a similar case for this situation. A false hope to help cope with reality of humanity's oncoming and unstoppable extinction.
