FIDH - International Federation For Human Rights - invited online and in-person participants on 22 February at the European Parliament to take part in the international colloquium: "Gaza: the legal and political implications of the genocide qualification"
Speakers presented and debated the implications of South Africa's referral to the International Court of Justice against Israel under the Genocide Convention.
➡️ How is this unprecedented step in the litigation process and the recognition of Israeli international crimes ?
➡️ Can States hold up to their obligation to prevent genocide following the orders of provisional measures by the Court against Israel ?
Over the last five months, more than 35,000 Palestinians have been killed by the Israeli army's bombardments and ground operations in Gaza and the West Bank.
The panel included, among others, human rights experts and advocates from groups such as FIDH, Al-Haq - FIDH member organisation, South Africa's ambassador to the Netherlands, and Members of the European Parliament.
*This event was organised by the Greens/EFA, on the initiative of the FIDH.

La FIDH - La Fédération internationale pour les droits humains - a invité des participant.es en ligne et en présentiel le 22 février au Parlement européen à participer au colloque international : « Gaza : implications juridiques et politiques de la qualification de génocide.»
Les intervenant⋅es présenteront et débattront des implications de la plainte de l'Afrique du Sud devant la Cour internationale de Justice contre Israël en vertu de la Convention sur le génocide.
➡️ En quoi s'agit-il d'une étape fondamentale dans le processus de reconnaissance des crimes internationaux commis par Israël ?
➡️ Les États sauront-ils faire la démonstration du respect de leur obligation de prévenir, arrêter et punir le génocide en cours, et de donner suite aux mesures provisoires de la Cour contre Israël ?
Depuis 5 mois, plus de 35 000 Palestinien·nes ont été tué·es par les bombardements et les interventions terrestres de l'armée israélienne à Gaza et en #Cisjordanie.
Le panel comprenait, notamment, des expert⋅es en droits humains et des défenseur⋅ses de groupes tels que la FIDH, Al-Haq - organisation membre de la FIDH, l'ambassadeur de l'Afrique du Sud aux Pays-Bas et des parlementaires européen⋅nes.
