There's real pathos in this. Israeli scholars of Jewish history do their work for what and for whom? As some sort of a gentlemanly pastime? With no contribution to make to their people and their self-understanding as based on truth and facts as distinct from legend? Respect for the guy who challenged the scholars about their mealy-mouthed evasions about the real implications of their own work.
