Originally from Ethiopia, coffee arrived in Colombia in the 18th century. Nowadays, the country is the second-biggest producer of coffee.
But what makes its coffee so special?
The answer lies in its tropical climate. To be able to grow coffee plants, Colombian farmers have to cultivate them at high altitudes. There, the cooler air allows the coffee to ripen more slowly. Because of the low night-time temperatures, the coffee beans absorb more sugar through their skin as they ripen. As a result, they taste sweeter in the cup, with notes that can be likened to caramel or vanilla.

Im in my 80s now, and my father gave me my first cup of coffee when he took me on my first Pheasant hunt with him. He said I could put sugar in it if it was too strong, I tried that but didn't like it that way, I was 12 yrs old at the time. I can't remember a day in my life since then I haven't had a cup of coffee. There were times the Doctors said it was bad for your health. Years later, they said it was good for you. I never paid much attention to them because it seems everything people eat or drink something that makes them feel good, the powers that be claim it's bad for their health. I'm an old man now and feel more lives have been saved because I smoke and drink coffee, then would have been dead had I not. So I thank all you wonderful people who took the time to grow and process this wonderful fruit. It has been a blessing to my life and the lives of many I knew, God bless.
