Humanity consumes a half-trillion cups of coffee every year, yet coffee production is one of the most antiquated industries within agriculture. Now the livelihoods of 125 million people working in coffee are at risk as the crop struggles to cope with global warming.

A voice-over video in Spanish, and the many languages that are found in the Coffee Belt, will be extremely helpful especially since farmers consume media on smart phones these days and can benefit from this kind of information. It will also help them understand just how important they are in this global phenomenon we call the coffee industry (and life). 🙏🏾 A relevant, important, and fantastic video all the way around! I wish you touched on the agroecological/agroforestry approach as an adaptation solution. By doing open field robusta monocrop we are pushing the coffe tree way out of its ecological niche which makes it vulnerable to pest and heat/water stress. By planting other species of companion tree to shade the fragile arabica plant we can create a more water efficient and biodiverse system with the benefit of added carbon sequestration.

there are 2 "main" species that are the most produced/planted and sold because how noble they are according to the producer I once asked about it , the others are not that "useful" for mass production but is still coffee and most don't have that much of a demand but you can still find it in some posh/boutique stores, or not, I do live in a country that produces coffee so I tend to get some stuff other markets lack lol.

The elephant in this room is political instability, which is ever-present in many of the 'bean belt' countries. Violent change and conflict in Africa, for example, will threaten the infrastructure of basic production and distribution of coffee to global markets. Add this grim reality to environmental impacts and climate change, and the current availability of coffee may disappear altogether.

The "wine and vineyard model" is bad news for consumers--just cynically adding layers of pretense in an attempt to justify higher prices. in closest future we might go back in point where coffee was one of most expensive things in world. of course not over gold, but as species if you may call it. we going back to circle. we messed up the earth, climate and when growing coffee will require billions of investments to make it grow at all, it will spike the prices up, cause investors will want to get they money back and people will still use coffee, no matter what. build specific types of cabins covered with plastic or glass just to grow coffee and keep right temperature and moisture level will be disaster for industry but it will happen, its just question when. climate changes is hard to predict on global scale, we might think we know but we dont, we are clueless what our presence on this planet causes to planet in long term. we still keep throwing sh*t in same place where we gather food. nuclear waste, yea, just throw them in ditch, think short, cause thinking long means to understand that 100 km further someone is drinking this polluted water (ground water) from nuclear waste. its amazing how low are hoomans going and rapidly keep descending even further on low scale. coffee is one of thousand things, plants, we endanger. its just start. we fix one problem somewhere, but two other arise cause of greedy demands we, homans, as specie, have. its neverending circle of self destruction and destruction of all thats around us. when there will be no plants, nothing left, last homan will die in middle of desert just to realize how bad one specie can f*ck up entire planet. and we dont think but destroying earth has consecuences also in universe. so think about it next time when we throw trash into ditch.

"Consumers need to understand that paying higher prices benefit the producers" (paraphrased) ... interesting. Lots of reporting, other than this, has shown that to almost always not be the case. Unless you know a particular roaster/retailer has a trusted trail of accountability how can your reporting be so definite? If a producer has negotiated a price but then has a bad production cycle, are they going to be compesated? How do I know my higher sale price is actually accounting for that? I think puting this quote in your reporting is bad practice since as you reported earlier in the /same/ video the coffee supply chain is very colonial. That means producers are generally the last to be uplifted by any change in price and definitely never within the same contract cycle.
