Does screening colonoscopy q10 years reduce the risk of colon cancer? Yes, it did by 18% as published in NEJM below. However colonoscopy does not reduce the mortality rate of colon cancer. In other words, colonoscopy helps to reduce the risk because polyps can be removed during the procedure, but the benefit is small, without reducing the death rate from colorectal cancer. So, now there are big debates on whether colonoscopy is absolutely necessary as a screening method or not. www.nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NEJMoa2208375
