In the USA there are at least 25-50 serial killers active at any given time. It is terrifying to think how many get away with thier crimes because we can't talk about how we caught them.

Agreed .. Bad re-enactment for those who know the original story and have seen the real interrogation. Jim Smyth is good, but he already knew that Williams was guilty before he even walked through the door.

I was curious to watch this episode bc I had previously watched Russell’s confession without benefit of any “expert” commentary. This gave me great insight into how the people responsible for the production of this program were wanting to spin this interview, and I have to admit disappointment. All I will say is, _don’t rely on this TV show for your information_ bc it’s really sensationalized and mucked up....watch the interview for yourselves.

Wait. Why did he care about his wife's feelings so much? Sure, he loved her but there is something dysfunctional in their relationship. She somehow left him wanting and yearning. He's guilty, no doubt, but I'm wondering if this could have been avoidable.

I'm not typically a fan of cheesy reenactments. Shows like this usually have some of the worst actors ever. The real version of this interview is absolutely fantastic and no reenactment will ever do it justice. With that said, I have to give credit where it's due. It is incredibly difficult to get the mouth/facial movements exactly right when reeacting audio like this. Most of the time, it's not believable. In most episodes of this show, the actors are believable when doing this.

Ive watched a few vids on this interrogation, I fail to see the brilliance from the cop myself, others had already supplied him with the incriminating evidence prior to entering the room, the tyre tracks, the boot prints, the car spotted near the house, he worked at the same base as one of the victims, the case was cracked before Williams got there, the interviewer did a good job but I cant imagine any other policeman armed with those details wouldnt have cornered Williams.....All these experts in the field of criminal psychology etc say its brilliant so it must be, it must be something to do with him keeping Williams talking.
@ohwell94
@ohwell94 10 ай бұрын
The brilliance of it was Jim Symth never once confronted Russell Williams with any evidence until the end of the interview..in fact he never even called him Sir or Colonel just Russel putting them on the same level In fact he asked questions that Williams answered that literally Williams himself painted right into a corner with no way out He didnt wear Williams down or bust him with a Perry Mason aha moment he just watched as Williams walked and talked himself into that trap and slowly lowered the door on it

They partly address that question towards the end. There are a number of factors at play. Firstly, they believe he had an obsessive need for a particular form of risk taking - for example, they believe he entered one house naked that he'd broken into. It's the particular kick that he craved. I suspect that was motivated by a specific preoccupation with power and control over women. A lot of sex offenders also commit burglary because it permits them to "violate" and control someone in a different way. They say that he had a very problematic relationship with his mother, who left the family when he was young. What he did was most probably a means to get back control over women, by doing things to them that they didn't consent to. Using a sex worker probably wouldn't have fulfilled that particular desire he had because they would have consented and been doing it by their own free will. Like so many killers, he seems to have been taking the rage he felt against a parent and using other people as a proxy to take it out on. In short, he was using other women as a means to try and rewrite his past, to take out the rage he had against his mother and take back the control that he felt his mother had taken from him.

Also: What also isn't mentioned in this video is that he was found to child sex exploitation material in his possession, and often broke into the houses of young girls and stole their underwear. Paedophilia is very often to do with power, control and dominance too.
