Man, the utility of the UI here is spectacular! Edit: "the battle will essentially fight itself no matter what you do" That's not true at all, even moreso now with missles and such being interactable elements within the game world. I won plenty of battles in OG Sins against larger, more powerful enemy fleets by maneuvering my smaller ships out of firing range and looping them around a planet to hit the enemy fleet from the rear, where the squishy long range units tend to hang back. Focus firing with high-damage frigates and cruisers on enemy capital ships early on in an engagement also makes a huge difference, as does focus-targeting captial ships and starbases with your capital ship's abilities. I played a lot of Advent and a well-timed string of repulsor fields from my Iconus Guardians (as opposed to them just firing off randomly) won me some fights I absolutely would have otherwise lost. There's a huge amount of RTS in the combat here, but it's less about clicks per minute and more about maneuvering and timing.
@EmpReb5 ай бұрын
Yup. With Capital Victory. Finding a good route to the capital can make or break the fights.
@NF-pk5mo5 ай бұрын
Exactly if you don't pick targets and move your ships during combat you won't maximize the potential combat power of your fleet. I was losing a fight earlier, realized I didn't do targeting, so I reloaded the save to right before the fight and did it again with prioritizing the highest DPS enemy ships first, we swept them away with under 10 ships
@SliderFury15 ай бұрын
@@NF-pk5moexactly man, this game absolutely rewards you for microing battles. The challenge comes in when you have like 5 fleets all fighting in different systems at the same time and have to prioritize one or two to micro cause you can't do them all.
@StayCalm05 ай бұрын
Adevent main here and I can say too that the illuminator vessel is also positioned horribly by the AI and he doesn't mention this in his ships guide video. It's true it has a long range Canon on the front, but it also has cannons on both sides, meaning you want to place it dead center of the enemy formation to almost triple your dps from each one. The Advent have plenty of abilities to keep the squishy shops alive in the thick of things if you use the abilities properly

@@StayCalm0 I would love to find a guide about all this. I've only scratched the surface by discovering those light ships with the shield projection abilities, I don't know about all the other stuff

A little surprised you didn't mention another reason to pick colony capable capital ship early over another is their colonize ability comes with advantages the standard colony ships don't. It may not make a huge difference in the long run, but you can get free extractors, faster pop growth, and things like that out of them.
@gogeta6675 ай бұрын
In SINS 1 the Colony ships were almost always a first pick because of this. Their other abilities were usually also fairly good and so they made good capital ships outside of their colony niche, just making them hella good as a first pick no matter what.
@SliderFury15 ай бұрын
I still prefer getting the combat-focused cap ship first (Radiance Battleship for my Advent obsession) because then I have a high-level wrecking ball of a fleet flagship sooner. Get tons of XP from popping all the mini vanguards in most gravity wells. Second cap ship doesn't take long to get, that's always my colonizer. Then it usually takes quite a bit longer to get your third, mostly cause of the supply cap, and I usually make that the carrier. I even switch my battleship and my carrier sometimes when playing Advent, the Halcyon is ridiculous at high level, absolutely chews up low to mid-level (upgrade-wise) Starbases from out of their range.

I found the tech loyalist has a little wicked advantage with the orbital feature. If you're able to set up double star bases with construction bays you can dump a load of free to build units into your opponents flank. It's definitely a long play strategy though.

@crazedmonk8u5 ай бұрын
only thing i disagree with is letting them fight and then doing something else, that is taking away from the main difference between its competitors and that is having RTS elements where you can actually shape the outcome of the battle with micro managing troops. this is unlock its main competitors in the genre where its just a stats and numbers game since everything is ai controlled. you lose or win based on a spreadsheet. If you don't want to do all that then sure, but i wouldn't tell new players that, especially since combat is the main appeal of the game since its kingdom management is not as in depth as other games

Good explanation maybe for newbies and not so fluent english speakers a bit fast otherwise top. I would say the most of the other comments and what you should do else etc. apply for people behond beginners. For beginners also the fighting comments make totally sense. If you are more than a beginner micro gets more important. But I would always say first macro and then micro.

I have a combat question. You bring a fleet with capital ships and smaller vessels, and battle it out with another fleet similar in size. I thought focus fire on a capital ship would be a good idea, but whenever i did it, the AI would retreat the damaged ship, before i could destroy it. Then u have the option either to pursue the ship while taking fire by the rest of the enemy fleet, or just let the damaged ship go and find a new target. Whenever I battled it out like so, I ended up loosing all my lighter ships, while the enemy was almost full stack minus one or two retreating damaged capital ships, and end up retreating myself back to base. Perhaps the best strategy is to take out the lighter craft first and then the larger ships?
@ColonelDamneders5 ай бұрын
I'm planning on making a more detailed fleet building & micromanagement guide but from my experience taking out the smaller ships first before ganging up on the capital ship is the way to go. If you think about it as total firepower, you're eliminating their power overtime, weakening the fleet rather than all your damage going into a ship that will never die and the rest of the fleet deals damage the whole time
@GeorgeMasterclass5 ай бұрын
@@ColonelDamneders Yes thats right. Tried it again yesterday. Made a fleet with capital ships and carriers, and supplemented it with a swarm of TEC corvetes. I explicitly threw the corvetes on the enemy's lighter ships and it worked, while dispersing fire with my capital ships. It worked alot better. Still working on it though.

Titan game-play in Sins:Rebellion was bad, there was a mod to remove them and the little crafts that were designed to fight against them (they never worked against titans anyways). Once Titans were gone, the game of Rebellion was actually good again, it was just like Sins 1 but more stuff, Sins 1 was good, a few hiccups on balance but Sins 1 was good, Rebellion just needed NO TITANS. I hear Titans are back and in Sins 2......I am not excited about the game. I will wait til a mod appears to remove Titans, if they didnt get them Right in Rebellion, they are not likely to get it right in Sins 2. BIGGER is not better. I have Seen this 100 times on games with trying to go bigger and more focus all powerful units. It usually does not go well. Remove the Titans and we may actually have a game here that is worth something. ONCE titans are REMOVED. Can I make my opinion that it is any clearer? basically the next best thing to removing titans, is likely to just nerf them to be just slightly stronger then two max capital ships. Still removal is the easiest fix I have seen.
@MrNiveko75 ай бұрын
I dunno, especially when going up against TEC, defenders always have an advantage when defending their space and especially in lategame, a protected system is close to impossible to take without significant effort and losses. I feel like you need a Titan class ship just for the pressure alone it provides. The fact planets can move now also gives the aggressor more option to attack. More mistakes can be made now. However, what I would like is Titans simply needing significantly more time warping into a system. A ship as strong as this should come with a warning. Vasari would be the exception there, as it would fit their theme if their titans could jump quickly while the others get like... a 10-15sec charge time and like a global warning for the defender when they jump into hostile systems. Tracking where the enemy titan is is half the battle.
@SliderFury15 ай бұрын
If you take Titans out, you have to take Starbases out too. They wreak havoc on capital ships but take way too long to kill without them. Titans are the hard counter to Starbases.
