For further explanation: Before you start a match you can turn off "planet movement", which will result in static planets and permenant phase lanes.

Cant wait till we get the Advent back in the game too, but Im really hoping that Sins 2 brings us a 4th faction eventually. Maybe the race the Vasari are running from maybe? They could have something unique like none of their ships have shields, but have very strong armor maybe. That is why the Vasari were being defeated, the phase missiles that bypass some shields cant do anything against the ships then. But it could turn out in this galaxy the TEC turn out to be strong against them due to their nanite stuff and armor lowering abilities. That way one faction is weak to the new one, one faction is strong against them, and one has no particular weaknesses or bonuses. Not sure what kind of special gameplay building they would have though. Anyone with some ideas?

A hive mind might be fun
@CSXIV4 ай бұрын
The last 3 books of "The Expanse" gave me an idea. They're some kind of extra dimensional hive mind that were held back by the phase inhibitors (and whoever built them built them for that purpose. Suppressing phase space was just the side effect). Maybe phase space travel hurts them. Also, maybe they have some abilities that manipulative phase space in a way that cancels Vasari phase tech. And thier primary power is psionic. That's why the ship that survived the Black Fleet's failed attack went insane. On that note, what happened that caused the pacifist exiles to become the vengeful Advent? I always believed that had something to do with the enemy chasing the Vasari, even before Rebellion came out. The backstory of the Advent Rebels/Reborn confirms this to me-thier whole story is "something has corrupted the Unity and it must be purged." I'm willing to bet that something is related to the Unknown Enemy. So what does the TEC have to offer? Well, what made humans resistant to the unknown entity in "The Expanse" is that they lacked the hive mind or advanced technology of the precursor race. In this case, the non-Advent humans might have a resistance to the telepathic attacks, and since they don't have technology advanced enough to manipulate phase space, the unknown enemy never thought to defend against it (think having a rock and a laser take on a force field. Maybe the force field stops the laser, but not the rock). Or something. On that note, I also have another theory that the unknown entity in "The Expanse" was inspired by the unknown enemy in the original SoaSE.

Point 14 is a good tipp for any strategy-game. Stockpiling ressources for no reason always means that you are not progressing as efficiently as you could which should be your major concern in early to midgame in every strategy-game.

There's a new Sins of a Solar Empire game?!?! The algorhythm has truly failed me if I didn't know about that. Shame it went the Epic route, that's usually not a good sign for a game, but I'll probably still check out the Steam release.

Well, Epic give money to the devs to get the one year exclusivity, and during this time the game was basically in beta. The game will truly release this summer on Steam, and i think we can thanks all Epic players who did the nasty work for us...

I can't figure out how to not lose to an easy ai. They took over one of my planets and out up defenses. And for the life of me, sending a full fleet of spital ships and normal ships fully upgraded (but under leveled) my fleet gets absolutely wiped by their defense.

You need ships that are good against structures like torpedo ships, gauss, and missles for TEC.

It can take hours for an orbit - not a high APM thing at all (and you can see where they will be far into the future). You can turn it off if you prefer.

If you're talking about the look of it, eh. Maybe. If you're talking about using it the game is just kinda complex. The UX is pretty good, esp compared to similar RTS and 4X games.

@@nomms theres just a LOT of wasted space with those icon box borders, the upper tab taking 600ms to pop down is annoying too. They do appear to be doing some things to fix it the game though, so time will tell they added mouse button binding support and keyboard zooming to the current prerelease so that alleviated two of my gripes in one go

I have played several games where it taught me a valuable lesson or it gave me a strategic option to exploit. I would say most consider the defense implications of the orbits, but it matters for offensive fleet movement as well. I had fleet deep in enemy territory that escaped massive losses due to the phase lanes changing behind them.
