I made a lot of cash thanks to that Nuke. I bought as many items as I could and sold them off 1 week later for a lot more. And I did the same with the campfire update. Bought 40K magic logs and sold 30K of them on the day of the launch, made a good profit, and used the other 10K myself to get 99 Firemaking and enough charms for 99 Summoning.

Both of these came out very close together, so it's extremely easy to lump them together, but the reason I had so many friends quit (many of whom still haven't returned) is because of EoC. What are you on about? 80+% of the updates they rolled to rs2 have been since rereleased- with less structure. We had soul wars cape, but it came from a grandmaster quest. The game is following the same path as last time, with less content that I enjoy. Dungeoneering was the golden age of rs2, Hate to break it to you.

It is true that the lack of bots made a lot of resources scarce hence expensive I strived through that but EOC (first to comment it in '24) was the final straw even for me... The simple OSRS hp and tick-attack system is so old that it had become unique, special attacks and switching comes as a natural technique and makes the game skill-based, although RNG-dependant

your not wrong, both games have different skills needed to play, I play rs3 and knowing how your skills interact with each other, keeping track of buff and debuffs, and knowing how to optimize your dps burst is a lot different than the tick tracking and positioning that osrs requires.

I remember discovering a glitch. It was when EOC dropped and when they introduced insta-kill darts. If you equipped the darts, but used an ability, you could one-shot any boss without losing any darts (you could only get 3). My buddies and I stayed up all night farming different bosses, it was great. Never banned.

Clusterflutterer was a disaster for the game, it lead to so many problems down the line, including Botany Bay which ended up "banning" legitimate players for botting due to a bug in their code. It was fun to run around as a robot for a while though, lol.

i quit runescape in 2011 i had no problem with runescape and it seemed like the game was going into a good direction but i finally got a decent pc and faster internet and i wanted to play wow. but i found out wow was already going down hill and despite me being a noob after a few months i was getting bored because wow often has 1 year + of no updates and i did everything the game had to offer so i wanted to try runescape again .but they announced evolution of combat and a lot of other old mmos i was interested in like starwars galaxies and city of heroes got shut down during that period .and microtransactions started getting mainstream. so i think this era was a true dark age for mmos

I think this shows the sad truth of game development. Game companies and developers would love nothing more than to have their game have NO micro transactions and no bots and everyone play and them make great profit this way. Once that doesn't happen or can't happen they are forced down other roads OR just close up shop and move on. There are things they did to the game that I feel didn't make the game more successful but took away what people loved in the game. EOC still is one of those updates. I think it's a cool thing but with the tick system and how the game works, it just doesn't feel like other games that use abilities. I have done high level content in WoW and did some high level content in Runescape back in the day but now I just haven't put in the effort to back into it as much. Also feels odd having to spend billions to get the best abilities and stuff.

You can never remove bots, but you can remove their visibility, and i feel like that's where jagex needs to go, all they need to do is remove bots from player economies, remove their trade abilities when trading to non-bots, and hide bot accounts from the player screen.

That's about the time I left, but it wasn't for THAT reason. Facebook Games by a particular company that starts with Z, were getting pretty popular and I took a break until 2016. I even told the Runescape page I was thinking about coming back. I got an encouraging reply from the page, and came back. Now these days I spend a majority of my time in Old School. The people there just have more heart. And I was getting frustrated fighting RS3 Vorkath on Hard mode. I may come back there, but I'm not quite ready for the next DXP event. Maybe the one after that. jagex was not fully right on the nuke day... that day was so sad... I still remember it, i had never botted and was banned for "botting" to this day it was the most stupid update they had... Some of my irl friends were also banned and never came back to the game because of it. Me and 2 other friends literally watched the countdown online at falador dancing to falling ballons when waiting on the update to hit 0. We got logged out and when we tried logging back in we were banned. And when appealed they were denied. Most of us used to pk alot with mates so most of our builds were made for pking...most of us were only f2p players... The p2p players of my irl friends were not banned which was bullshit.... They ended up quitting because most of us regular f2p playerrs were banned. Alot of the people used to line up in library on reccess to use the computer libraries to play. After that update literally no one was there anymore maybe like 2 or 3 but not as many as before lol

I was a player moderator back then, and bot busting days were kind of fun for a while, but it got old really quickly. I was a regular player most of the time from the summer of 2004, until EoC. I had quit for some time until Old School came out. But I was still a P Mod until I mentioned in the P Mod section of the forums, that I no longer played RS3, because of EoC. Shortly thereafter, my P Mod status was revoked with no explanation. It upset me at first, but then I realized that I could chat on public chat and not get mobbed by haters and beggars. The only thing that I really miss is being able to temp mute the nasty foul mouth trouble makers, and the advertising bots.

@@TheFawly84 in the last 3 months alone, my best available moneymaker has went from 2.2m/hr from instabuys to 750k/hr if you play with the margins for 3 days despite gaining about 400 total levels in that time LMS, BH, and soul wars filled with account that you simply can't defeat in a 1v1 , (instant prayer and kit switches ) without a huge luck diff Peak hours unable to access world 330 for POH Low hours unable to win a GOTR game on the main world for it. Oh but on the bright side, we can all make 200k/hr from fetching 9gp maple logs

The Wilderness was a safe zone until February of 2011. Although its true Bounty Hunter existed before then, it was an optional minigame that I'd say is very different from the Wilderness that existed in 2007 and prior :) secure.runescape.com/m=news/the-wilderness-and-free-trade-return

Squeal was what killed the game for me back in my post-university days but yea I can obviously see why it was necessary. It does give me shivers though that with RS3 bleeding players and its content creators how long will it be before RS3 becomes unviable and the microtransactions move over to OSRS?

Well, as the video said. It doesnt matter to them how many players they're losing, but how much they can milk out of the remaining ones. I just hope they realise soon that player retention matters more than people willing to spend because they cant keep milking the same cow forever. An example recently would be the super controversial MTX update called Hero Pass. You can look it up to see the aftermath of the player base and subscription they lost because of it. The new combat skill Necromancy, lowered the skill ceiling for PVMing and made combat system easier to learn for new players. It drew back quite a lot of players to try it out and was generally very well received. Then that update happened, pretty much killed the entire hype of the skill and positive light they painted themselves in.

You say player retention matters even after seeing how the whales are what keeps the game afloat. The final version of heropass wasnt bad though. Prefered it over the daily challenges we had before and have again now.

RS3 isn't bleeding players, it's been a steady 25-30k concurrent players for literal Years (since about 2016-2018 2019 was a dark year for us though), sure it peaked up to 40k during 2020 with the release of archeology and the sickness, but for the past almost 2 years now, it's been around the 25-30k mark again, it's still well above it's lowest point, which was 18k back at the tail end of 2019, and is on a slow rise again. I wouldn't say it's thriving, but we absolutely have a very passionate group of players.

They should remove free trade today. We got the GE today. Put back in the loan system. But keep drop trading. So people using alts can still trade with themselves. But it’ll be much, much easier to spot mules/botters.
