Alice has such a beautiful house! However, she said that we've had Christmas for 250 years and, in fact, it's a very Victorian idea. The Christmas tree didn't become a trend until after she and Prince Albert put one up at the castle for their children. And don't forget that the Puritans didn't allow Christmas, an idea that stuck around New England until the second quarter of the 1800s. Easter was always a much more important holiday than Christmas. Anyway, thanks for the great video!

You're exactly right - I didn't add up the years incorrectly!! Good catch - I did know the story of Queen Victoria and her family around the tree and that was one of the things I wanted to mention as well but forgot - yes Christmas started in the US in the late 1800's

Evening, Anne... I'm looking forward to this for my bedtime "Story." I'll be snug up in my ol' four-poster with these Tabby brothers & yes, it's been snowing here, all day. Your home always brings to mind our family home where I grew up in on the coast of Maine. Was originally a tavern, too - circa 1754. One of the most interesting artifacts we found during some restorations was a small, dried-up leather child's shoe. Was behind a north wall. Since, I've learned that this was not an uncommon practice - especially in Colonial New England. Something about superstitions or to "Ward off" evil sprits?
