You would think they would have bothered to research a very simple question; do residents of territories have to pay federal income taxes? The answer of course is no in most cases. I guess a 30 second google search was too much to ask for. The main reason these territories stay territories is because the residents enjoy virtually all the benefits of US citizenship with the added bonus of NOT paying federal income taxes. Peurto Rico is a great example. Paying $10,000 to $20,000 a year in taxes is simply not worth having a conman pretend to represent you.

Both parties are bad as each other when it comes to your overseas territories, and why not give them a statehood? Don't understand America.

I learned in the last maybe nine years that we own, for better lack of a word, Puerto Rico. We’re not taught about America’s imperial colonies in school. So yes, there are colonies that America has. But we talk about freedom all the time.

It's not a matter of house rules, it's a matter of statehood. The way our current laws are set are set, to make them full states would be the only way to give those territories' members of congress full voting rights in house and Senate.
@krysisstorm27032 күн бұрын
Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Mariana Islands and U.S. Virgin Islands all should become states immediately. However, Washington D.C., in my view, should not! One of two options should happen with them. Rhe first option is D.C.'s Mayor should be given gubernatorial power and they should receive half of the congressional representation that they have under statehood. With their current population, if they were a state, they would have 1 house rep and 2 senators. With their half representation, they would have 1 and 1 in chamber with full voting rights. The 2nd option should be the separation of the city of Washington from the District of Columbia. The District would be only federal land consisting of the White House, the Capitol Building, Treasury, National Mall and the like, while the city of Washington gets annexed to either Maryland or Virginia. The residents of DC should vote to decide this choice.

Imagine being a (nonvoting) Congressman and knowing so little about how our government works.
