I've been pretty overwhelmed with how to start when it came to colors, and so I've watched a number of videos on the topic, but I felt that there was something lacking in my work. I stumbled across this video and you explained your thought process behind the 3 step formula so well which made me excited to do more value and color studies. Great video and explanation. Can't thank you enough!

I’ve always been intimidated by color in my art. Because of that I typically avoid it, this definitely made me feel more confident about it. I will definitely be studying and practicing it more!!

I would also suggest that people start out small. Like a banana or coffee cup. Some of your color studies, like a vase, grapes, etc., is a little busy for a fresh beginner to start on. It may discourage them due to the busy-ness of the subject. I would say start out simple and small and increase to more complex studies as your skill increases over months of practice.

Thanks for sharing this video! I have color blindness, so I always worry about whether my colors look good. When I was a kid, I thought I would never be an artist because of it, but as I've grown older, I've discovered that the only thing that holds me back is not trying to learn and study color. I enjoy color studies because they teach me about how I perceive color, and they help me observe a reference as a whole, instead of focusing on every detail. You explained that you start from value to hue and saturation, which was really easy for me to understand since I place a lot of emphasis on getting my values right before even thinking about color. Ever since I started doing studies it has made me much more confident when choosing colors. Great video! Hugs from Spain! 🥰🤗🤗🤗

I've always been struggling with color theory, and so clueless on how to do color studies. i always thought color is one of the most hardest and intimidating parts to learn in art. but after watching this video, I've definitely learnt a lot on how to do so! so, thank you very much for sharing! ❤️

Thank you for the comment! I can totally relate, It was so difficult for me to find videos that actually explained the process behind making colour studies, so I was too afraid to actually try for sooooo long. I was lucky enough to eventually get a hang of it and felt I had to share what I’ve learned to others who might be having similar problems, so I’m extremely glad the video was helpful! ☺️

This very helpful I've been struggling how to study color. Even bought the Color and Light book by James Gurney but having a hard time implementing what I've read. The tip where focusing on the value 1st before figuring out the Hue and Saturation is a very good tip and also figuring out between warm and cool light. Thank you!

This was really helpfull! I would love to see a tutorial about Procreate. I saw that you were using it for your study and now im wondering how you made that gray recktangle next to the reference and how you did not paint over the edges. Also what brushes you use for painting. I think at the beginning the pasic ones might be enough but are you using any other ones? sometimes i get really frustrated with the basic brushes and i dont know if its me and my skill or if i just need a brush with other functions... so i would love to hear your take on it. thank you and keep making your wonderfull videos :)

Hello! thank you for your coment! I'll definitely take note of the video idea for the future : ) I made the rectangle by duplicating the refrence photo, locking the layer and filling it in with a solid color. Then I made sure to set the layers I paint on to " cliping mask" that way eveything clips to within the shape of the rectangle below. you can watch this for better explanation >> kzbin.info/www/bejne/aIGcgpJ7hNuIY7s As for brushes, I have a video On my channel about my favorite procreate brushes, you can check that out if you're intrested. 90% of the paining was done using " Sharp Render" from Jingsketch Basic 10 brush pack, and the defualt round brush on procreate tweaked a bit to my preference! not all brushes work for everyone, so if you find you're struggling with the default brushes, try downloading some other brushes online. Hope this reply was helpful, if you still have questions feel free to ask 🤗

I don’t know if you do traditional art, but if you do, could you make a similar video but with watercolor or gouache perhaps? I feel like the concept here applies for traditional mediums as well but it’s a bit hard to grasp without seeing it. If you can’t that fine as well! I love your videos💕
@zeusolympus16642 жыл бұрын
Tradition art adds more variables to colour study. I would say to get used to digital and then traditional.
@Defflin2 жыл бұрын
These concepts does apply to traditional mediums as well. the only difference here is that the behavior of the paint and brush since they're separate mediums to begin with. nonetheless basic fundamentals such as interaction of light and color, form, shape, etc. are all still the same.
