I can't tell if it was a joke or not to upload a video about color science in 360p, but I laughed anyway. Thanks for the free info!

This was recorded back in 2012/3 so its not so much as a joke as outdated (not really, still valid but they have expanded to the BT/REC2020 now and HDR monitors)

I've been studying mechanical engineering for 15 years, and when the pandemic hit, I distracted myself from my PhD work with cameras and videography. Ever since, I've been longing for an explanation like this. I wish I had found this video three years ago. THANK YOU

Great video! Starting a Color Science PhD in the fall and as I am coming from a chemical engineering background, this video helped me to better understand some of the core concepts. Thanks!

This was incredible, thanks so much for sharing this. I only wish it had been done so in better quality than 360p but as I understand it, this recording isn't recent (contemporary to Elysium's release)

This is a groundbreaking and ridiculously amazing and educative video or tutorial I have ever seen and encountered in my lifetime watching youtube. This is incredible stuff. I do not understand why this channel only has around 10k subscribers and this video only has some 22.5k views. Maybe people are too busy using and pissing off on the luts by famous KZbinrs and do not actually understand the basics of it.

I cad my own colour interpolation algorithm years ago, and I thought two sided cones were how it would only logically be organized. Turns out rgb is organized into a cube, but if you stretch a point here and there it maps to hls. Knowing this seemingly trival thing would have helped, as I just implemented the HSL algorithm from wikipedia and would have loved to see the colour cube first. It makes sense now.

Fascinating stuff!... in 26:05 is this why when we watch the sports the lights in the stadium get black dots on the lights? the camera sensor is reading color in those black spaces outside of the color range?

Hi - You mentioned the triangle 3 point colour system, and how there's no way to represent all the visible colours within the triangle. Isn't that how the ACES coluor space works?
@davidluisfilms Жыл бұрын
So what he explains is that you can't have 3 colour system that encompasses all visible colours using 3 visible colours. However you can actually define 3 imaginary colours (which don't exist because they are outside the visible spectrum) but that provide a useful geometrical representation because it is a wider triangle that encompasses the whole visible spectrum. Any colour outside the spectrum is imaginary but that doesn't mean we can't use those points as a trick to define other points

Actually a prizm camera would work like the human eye. At least for color. It would require 4 image sensors and a prizm that splits the light. Walt Disney made a film camera that did this so it should be easier to do so with digital cameras. The 4 sensors would be for the 3 colors RGB. Thay are the colors of light we blend in camera already. The 4th sensor is for light sensitivity and transparency. You would get more accurate color rendering and better quality light sensitivity. You would also have more control in post production.

Dear filmmakers in 2023 and beyond, please, for the love of God, STOP filming scenes entirely in darkness. Its annoying. People watch your films in broad daylight as often as a dark theatre. So please stop. Its not good. I see it all the time where films are way too dark In the Q and A, he says Luminance is one of the most important features, and I could not agree more. Stop filming pure black scenes. We cant see jack!
