The backdrop of sheer rock wall makes a wonderful composition with the single maple tree. It uniquely and beautifully renders what is often a trite "isolated tree" snapshot.

Thanks Istvan, seems there's a whole lot of truth in that statement!

Great work Chris. I think the final one is my favorite. It would also look awesome in black and white, I bet.

Thanks Brian! Hadn't considered that but you're probably right, I'll have to see how it looks!

Wow, I really enjoyed the last image. It was such an interesting subject. I'm not great in geology but shots like this always make me wonder about the forces of nature that caused something like that to form. I also liked the first shot a lot. That one looked like a streak of lightning flashing through the scene. Enjoyed it as always Chris.

Thanks Philip! Agreed it always intrigues me when I see rock layers that look like they've been pulled like taffy, haha. It defies everything I know about the properties of rock and yet there it is doing crazy things like that 😳

Outstanding images yet again. Especially the final one, although the first one does a great job capturing those Zion fall colors. We got chased out of DV due to wind, it was just crazy blowing. It's an intimidating place to photograph for sure, but we may have gotten a couple.

Thanks Frank! Bummer to hear, my trip last year was exactly like that. It's incredible how difficult it can be to work in those conditions, the winds can be so fierce in DV it just blows the morale right out of a person 😖

Great shots Chris. I really like that last one. The curves in the rock reminded me of an abstract cinnamon bun. I probably just need to eat something sweet. 😂

Really like the first shot of fall color vine maple leaves, but then I've been known to stand on my brakes when passing such a scene myself. A twist on the scene (and color) you can do with this subject, but not really with a view camera, is to place yourself behind the screen of leaves relative to the sun, then shoot them with the sunlight passing through from behind. The color is intense. The contrast of leaf color and silver stims is a real bonus here. Very nice.

Thanks Randall! Funny enough there were a few of us large format guys crawling around the washes while I was there and one of the guys was shooting a similar approach with an 8x10 and some beautiful oak leaves. I remember thinking to myself that I need to try that at some point, haha. Definitely appreciate the suggestion and I agree that would be a really fun one to explore!

This trip seems to emphasize a gentle, sort of Japanese style beauty for the images featuring plants. (as opposed to the stark beauty of the bristlecone trip). I do like the images. The last image had a sort of other worldly look. I call it planet Gejelon.
@ChrisDarnell Жыл бұрын
Thanks Dann! I hadn't looked at it that way but you're right there's an interesting contrast between the two! Haha, I may have to steal that name for the print copy 😆
