This is a very doable one for first timers or flat-landers like myself during the summer. It was a very long day but was well worth that spectacular view of the Crestones! Absolutely unforgettable!

After reading some books on the San Luis Valley in 2018, I decided to see the area first hand. I ended up staying about 5 days in Crestone. Although I never got a chance to do any real hiking, it was these beautiful Crestone mountains that made me fall in love with the area. So much so that I ended up buying some land at the Baca Grants. Hopefully one day I can get out of the east coast (permanently) and start a new life out there. That magic you describe at the sight of those mountains - I know exactly what it is you mean. Thank you for the great video - though it did leave me feeling a bit nestalgic.

approaching the humboldt summit looks a little precarious. Is that just how it looks on camera, or is there some actual climbing to reach the summit? Do you need any special gear?

I actually hiked up there around the same time in August 2017 and I remember it raining everyday. I hiked Crestone Needle which was cool.

Great video. I plan to attempt Humbolt Peak this weekend and camp in the basin. Are there other good camp sites similar to yours that provide views like you had? An amazing basin for sure! Safe Trails!

Nice! As an overnight in August, what would be your choice Humboldt, or Blanca. Enjoy your videos.

Pete Evans personally I enjoyed Humboldt more when I did it. The he is of the crestone is incredible. But blanca is sweet to. But, the lake como approach isn't the best.

How bad was that last 1.5 4 wheel drive section to the trailhead? Could my all wheel drive Suburu handle it?

Hey y’all! I am looking to do my first 14er this coming summer. I am a Texas flatlander and have no real experience. At first I was looking at this mountain, but it honestly looks really exposed and steep. What mountains would y’all recommend for backpacking? Class 1 or easy class 2 is a must. They say this mountain is class 2, but it looks kinda technical to me... any advice is appreciated!
