In 1990, the average price of live cattle was 0.78 cents per pound and the average price of ground beef was $1.00 dollar per pound. In 2018, the average price of live cattle was $1.17 dollars per pound and the average price of ground beef was $4.50 dollars per pound. Thus, over two decades the cow/calf rancher has only seen an increase of 0.39 cents per pound (50% increase) in their finished product. While the packers have seen a $3.50 dollar increase per pound (350% increase) in there finished product. This is why small family ranchers can not afford to make a living. This video fails to share their side of the story.

I used to work and live about 5 miles from the Kersey feedlot in the early 80's. I also worked in the Animal Hospital at the feedlot southwest of Evan's Colorado. ( I forget what they called that one.) It was a short time after the guy got killed Accidentally rolling a frontend loader off the silage pile. I Had a lot of fun caring for Cattle for Monfort and later Farr feedlots. I met a number of really cool and Smart cowboys /Pen checkers. I learned a few life's lessons from this crowd. Again later I would Haul many Truckloads of cattle into the Monfort Feedlots. One of my duties in the hospital was to check the Veterinarian's list in the morning and go out and shoot the cows that weren't going to survive or wasn't deemed worth the cost of medication. I was NOT trained for this so it didn't always go well. I would shoot a cow and it would drop. I would turn my back and get the chain from the tractor I used to haul the Animal away with. Turn around and the animal has gotten up and was standing there looking at me. One time after shooting a steer a number of times I ran out of ammo and had to go all the way to the hospital to get more ammo and go back and finish the steer off. I hated that Fucking Job! I guess my supervisor figured everyone knows how to humanely kill an animal. A@@hole!

When I was in grade school - maybe 6th grade - we went on a field trip to the Swift Meat Packing House in Portland, OR. I saw how the cows were first stunned - then hung by one foot - then by conveyor belt to the chamber where the throats were slashed and animal bled out - and on and on thru the packing house. Pretty gruesome sight for a 12 yr old. And the stink was horrendous.

@pinetorch81814 жыл бұрын
chip63us they do , guess your too busy eating your popcorn to pay attention. They’re on feed a short time, finished out to slaughter weight way more efficiently than on grass, thus saving the environment. Enjoy your popcorn, but please pay attention, your kind of inadequate attention is wrecking the world.

A few years ago I was driving thru NC and saw a truck PACKED FULL of turkeys. They were wedged into cages so tight and sitting out in a parking lot on trucks. NC summer is hot and steamy. I swore I’d never eat turkey after seeing that horror and I haven’t done it yet. Before y’all hurl ugliness at me I’ve hunted my whole life and have put down more pigs than I can count. Every animal I put down was treated with reverence for feeding my family.

Could of used that land to grow corn and feed way more people and save a fuck load of money.
@mikeleikam28926 жыл бұрын
Karl Drabsch most of the corn grown is used for livestock or sold over seas. As for water it isn't stored ,it's released to flow on down stream . Can't stockpile water.
