Colorado lawmakers demand answers from CDOT after record number of crashes in construction zones

Maybe we start actually enforcing speed limits in construction zones. We all know everybody goes way faster than the limit. What speed people actually go is what’s relevant, not what some safety guidelines say.

It’s not just terrible drivers. I do t know how many times I’m on a road that’s 30 to 45mph and there’s suddenly a lane closed. No warning, no lights ahead of it, no signs ahead of it. Just about 6 feet of cones, so suddenly everyone is slamming on their brakes. It pissed me off

I agree. Also when they are present, those signs are not applied consistently. You'll see a right lane closed ahead sign and fight your way over only for it to actually be the right turn lane, a lane that didn't exist yet when I passed the sign that the right lane was closed. The lane closed signs should have a square plate underneath with the distance to the closure and if it's not a through lane, it should be noted as "turn lane closed"

Its a combination of horrible drivers from California and poor signage clearly indicating lanes, lane shifts, etc.

Traffic control is often lazy. They leave lane closed ahead signs out. Only to actually be open. They just didn’t pick up the signs from the day before.

Because it’s not safe to do so. It makes things even more dangerous than they already are. Maybe people who don’t have any education in matters should keep their terrible opinions to themselves.

Speeding. reckless, and inattentive driving. It's all over the state. It forces me to go slower, which increases issues. If only we could treat these issues as crimes and enforce crimes in the state, we'd all be better off.

I work in traffic control( the people who make construction zones) and I can tell you that CDOT is a dangerous entity who breaks rules regularly. I have video evidence of it too. They tried to kill me with an improper construction zone. I know because I know the rules and standards.

No really, it’s bad traffic control mixed with CDOT who enforces rules they refuse to adhere to. CDOT is dangerous and needs to be overhauled from the ground up. What a worthless entity they are.
