As a Texan...it might have been Montana instead of Colorado, but I'd never been hiking in the friggin' actual mountains, let alone seen an actual mountain in real life, so 4 miles up WITH the trek poles and bear repellant my sister in law gave me because I'm a noob, I can barely breath, and here comes this family of 4 locals, mom's in sandals, has an entire child strapped to her back, and she's walking at a fast clip alongside her skipping child and husband. Breathlessly I asked them how many miles more....2 they said. I almost died.

So Appalachia isn’t the Rocky’s, but I grew up with a state park in my back yard and when I was in high school, we would just Hess into the woods all the time. We’d show up in flip flops snd mall clothes and knew all the trails. It wasn’t until college that my best friends pointed out how people came from all over the country in their boots and gear, and we could walk the trails like they weee sidewalks 😂

On the 4th we were in a touristy spot, with a car stopping where it shouldn't be and then we saw it was from Texas, and said, Oh of course it's Texas. People do seem to have a lot of hostility towards Californians though.

Hahahahaha we have a famous cliff here called Cape Blomidon. Its covered in amethysts. When my sibs and i were kids, my older brothers and other local lads would scale the cliffs freehand and barefoot , picking up amethysts and putting them in their pockets. They always got such a laugh at the people from away covered in climbing gear like they were scaling Everest hahaha
