Colorado Springs and Pikes Peak

We went to Colorado Springs for our wedding anniversary! Checked out the town of Manitou Springs as well as the drive up Pike's Peak! Also went hiking at the Garden of The Gods.

Thanks for taking us with you. That place is special to me. My Dad was stationed there from '57-'59 at Fort Carson. My brother was born there. I grew up with pics and memories there. I was fortunate enough to go there with my dad in '79. We made the Pikes Peak trip in a........'79 Mercury Zephyr. ...Wide open, it could muster 15 mph at the top. I'm glad you shared this with us.

Hey fun fact about 2 years ago I use to live in the springs and I was homeless I lived under a bridge out there for awhile about a mile from Garden of the Gods. It was the hardest time in my life but it’s cool to see the same places I use to sit on corners and ask for money and stuff and just see how much better I’m doing in life now

The views from pikes peak looked more amazing than I could've imagined. What surprised me the most though was the view coming into Orlando at night! That was gorgeous! I was stationed there at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs pretty cool to see some old memories

Sometimes it's hard to realize that Pike's Peak is only 300 ft. lower than Mt. Rainer but you can drive to the summit of Pike's Peak. I've been to the summit twice in the early 70's, drove to the summit before it was paved and found out that beer in bottles don't survive the trip real well. Second time up was by foot trail, all units stationed at Ft. Carson at the time had to make the climb up to the summit where trucks were waiting to take us back. I don't remember exactly why but had to do with Zebulon Pike being an Army officer.

I went there in June and going down piles peak is terrifying especially when your the back of a huge group and your brakes decide to heat up. We had to take a fifteen minute break at the checkpoint going down. If you ever go back to Colorado you should definitely visit Rocky Mountain National park it’s truly amazing.

If you ever go back, visit the Cumbres and Toltec or Durango and Silverton. Take a nice ride into the mountains on remnants of the once proud narrow gauge segments of the Denver and Rio Grande Western, one of two American standard gauge railroads to also own narrow gauge. The other was the Southern Pacific. It's gorgeous in the mountains on the narrow gauge. Both segments are 3 foot wide and well worth the time and visit. On one, you will also visit New Mexico.
