This is good stuff!! I’m 45 years old and we are doing the trail in segments until we complete it. Starting at Breckenridge this year. It’s amazing your 1st episode brought got me fired back up for this summer

I'm 62, hiked 2,500 miles in 1988 (mainly small roads, some trails), and now that I'm retired in Colorado I'm planning to do a CT thru hike next year. (I spent several days on Segments 24 and 25 this summer and, WOW!) I have learned so much from your videos. I know you don't get rich doing what you're doing, and appreciate your taking the time to share your knowledge with the rest of us. In 1988 my pack weighed 60 pounds. I hope that in 2021 it'll weigh about 11-12 pounds base weight. (I do have some luxuries, and I can't afford to buy the ultra-ultralight gear.) PS: No way I'll be doing 27 and 25 miles my first two days, so I anticipate I'll be carrying a lot more water than you did!

@rolfdenver4 жыл бұрын
@@jkgkjgkijk You know, you're absolutely right - no way I'll get to 11-12. 15-16 is a more reasonable target - and that doesn't include my telephoto camera.

I can’t get over the quality of the trails you hike - they’re bloody super-highways! I was always amazed at tales of US hikers doing 20 miles a day. A good day in the hills here in NZ would be 10km, it now makes sense, no calf deep mud or walking up wild rivers for four hours...
@zainshaikh5273 жыл бұрын
That sound pretty cool though

Years ago I was sent on a trip up the Styx River and down the Arahura River by a local when I was in NZ. He told me it would be "a walk in the park." I did not pick up on his sarcasm, or maybe he really did think it was a walk in the park. Needless to say that trip put me through the wringer!

Wow! Don't know whether to be more impressed with 51 miles on the first two days or the fact that you condensed all that footage into just 8 minutes of (awesome) video. I'm learning lots about editing from you while also enjoying your adventures! Thanks and belated happy birthday!

Thanks for taking all of the time and effort in to taking us on your journeys. I have been following your KZbin since you hiked the Appalachian Trail. I have a little more than 800 miles on the AT and had to come off. I hope to finish up next year. Then onto the PCT. Stay safe and healthy. God bless. Oh, I'm a young 68. LOL LOL

I grew up very close to Waterton Canyon and we used to go out there all the time when I was growing up, so I was absurdly excited to see Darwin standing next to the sign in the video. I used to look at the Colorado Trail sign there when I was in college (I was into birding then and the area in and just outside the entrance to the Canyon is fantastic for birds) and wonder what it would be like to hike all the way to Durango. Now that I've started backpacking myself, who knows, maybe someday... Looking forward to the rest of these videos!

No two miles are completely equal. Those 25-30 mile days are usually real flat, but the wilderness where the ground is rocky and uneven can easily bring your hike down to 10 miles a day depending on the elevation climb.
