Colorado Trail Thru-Hike _ Day 10

You missed the shot of Elbert!. I finished my hike this year at Twin Lakes. Hitched all the way back to Denver from there. I got real lucky and the lady that picked me up was heading all the way there. It was also a convertible Audi S6 so that was awesome. She couldn't smell how bad I reeked.

I hit the General Store as well. Told the owner I was at the end of my my journey for the year and he gave me the root beer I was going to buy. 🙂 So that's where I started walking the same direction you did but i did keep my thumb out. I walked probably 2-3 miles before she picked me up. I was originally going to hitch to Buena Vista to catch the bus back to Denver but got the direct hitch. Can't tell you how awesome that was. I paid for the gas when we got go Leadville and bought us lunch at Wendy's because that's where she wanted to go. Oh we also hit a liquor store once we got to Denver. That was her idea but I got some whiskey too. I then stayed three nights in Denver which was cool. Denver is an amazing city as you figured out yourself. I did walk everywhere though. I had so much time to waste before my flight back. First night I stayed at Hostel Fish, second a Hilton, third a Hyatt. I lived it up. lol... I'm reliving it right now!

The generosity of strangers and epic side adventures are what thru hiking is all about. Sounds like you had a memorable hike. Cheers to that!

You could have just taken the short cut west along the highway to CW. That would had only been like 2 miles and you would had been back on trail. The second time I did the CT that's the way I went and it was SO BEAUTIFUL. That lake walk is hot,dry, windy, and kind of boring tbh. Anyway you're doing a great job filming and capturing the spirit of the CT. Nice work!

Thanks! Glad to hear you are enjoying the series. I heard from some hikers about that route but chose to hike around since our attempt to cross the lake didn't go so well..😅
