I was, and still am, impressed with my effort on that day. It was a fun personal challenge on top of everything else a thru hike puts on your plate.

I watched the southern 1/2 of your hike as you posted in 2022- top notch hike, positivity, & content. So it just now dawned on me that you started your sobo August 5th. After your successful hike and 3 years since your start, what are your thoughts on your start date in hindsight? Would you recommend? Any thoughts? I'm asking because i will be hiking sobo in 2028 and I'm not real excited about the 'traditional' starts of late-May to mid-July for various reasons. I realize a later start relies heavily on pre-hike conditioning. I appreciate any input you may have!
@LeftEnrightАй бұрын
I would repeat it in a heartbeat! My timing for a start date was affected by a few things mostly avoiding heat and bugs. My pace was affected by avoiding hiking in snow/winter. I still experienced heat/bugs and a little snow. So in hindsight, if I had started mid/late July, I could have enjoyed more of the northern section at a slower pace knowing that the southern section is "easier". I had an artificial deadline, so I kept a fast pace at the beginning and went faster towards the end. I'd recommend ramping up more gradually with daily mileage and don't set an end date too far in advance.
@kevins3828Ай бұрын
@@LeftEnright I appreciate your insights. Your reasons are basically the same as mine....Heat, bugs, winter in the north. Mid/late July sounds like the sweet spot. Thank you your help!

love the hiking. regarding guns. everyone is entitiled to their own thoughts on the matter. and i would agree that most people probably dont need guns, the problem is, there are people out there that do use guns for crime and you cant stop that from happening. so its futile to try to ban or outlaw guns, then the only people with guns are bad people. there are too many guns to get rid of them all so it doesnt make sense to take them from the good people so that only the bad people have them.

Excellent CO Trail thru hike series. What shoes did you use? Did you ask Hyper lite to test drive their tent? Is late July early August a good date to hike CO Trail? What camera gear did yours for your YT vlogs?
@LeftEnright3 ай бұрын
Thanks for joining the fun! I hiked in Peregrine 12's and Hoka Speedgoat 5's. Hyperlite asked me to test the Unbound 2P and part of the testing and R&D. I started on July 23rd and enjoyed the mix of daylight and weather. That time of year is the most popular start. My videos are all filmed on a Gopro 9. Are you planning a thru hike?

Thats awesome that you stopped at Gettysburg and saw some Maine monuments. Late to this video series but have to say you have the best SOBO vlog I've found on youtube, even if it is a few years later! Do you remember where you got the hat? If it was at Dirty Billy's in Gettysburg, he's a really interesting guy to talk with.

That's the place! Ha. I popped that hat on the other day too. It was special to visit those hallowed grounds while I was journeying through the Appalachian region where it all took place. Seeing how bad things can get really amplifies the blessed gift of walking peacefully thru nature. Thanks for watching. What about the series do find to be different or more enjoyable?
@FUNKRUBICON5 ай бұрын
I just finished watching the series over the weekend. What I liked most about your videos is that it focused on the trail and it was nice not seeing the same repetitive NOBO perspective. A lot of other AT thru hike channels I’ve watched may start out well but it devolves into tramily drama or documenting the places to stay to an overbearing excess I find. Perhaps your posts were different as well because you put them out after completing the trek and were more concise with the editing. I hope more people interested in the topic find the videos, having watched so many others you’re definitely worthy of more views and subscribers! When I get a chance I’ll be sure to check out the Colorado videos.
