I recently purchased one of these caps and use it on a Juwel 34 and Juwel 84. Besides a reduction in noise the simmering is improved tremendously. On low flame with self pressuring stoves I usually get a weak and yellow flame that is blackening my pots. However with this BD Minicap I can now prepare my oatmeal breakfast on a gentle blue flame without any traces of black soot on my cup.

Oh,noooo!I do not want to loose the noise,it is the sweetest sound in my ears waiting for the food or coffee being ready for intake!But let us be frank,that little shit worked out fine,yes indeed!

Thanks for making a really nice video about the BernieDawg Minicap in use in your Svea 123. I'm glad that you are enjoying the cap. Happy camping! BD

Hey, thanks for stopping by! And thanks for offering these caps at a fair price. I've learned more than I ever thought I could about these old stoves from your videos. Cheers, BernieDawg!

One of my all time FAVORITE accessories!!! Silent caps are more susceptible to wind than just the plate so I like to carry both. I wish I could go back in time and give one of these caps to Colin Fletcher to see what he thought of it. I bet he'd like it.
@ColoradoCamper8 жыл бұрын
Yeah I remember when BernieDawg was selling them on eBay, I wanted one so bad but the price was far more than I paid for my Svea 123. I am so glad that he is selling them for a tad more than cost, and I can't wait to get some good use out of mine. I can see what you mean about wind, so I was planning on carrying the plate as well. I have been checking out your channel this morning, you have some great content. I always like to see someone who appreciates these classic, ultra-reliable stoves. I hope to get my hands on an 8R and/or 111T someday. Cheers!

Colin would have loved them. I have always used the sound to regulate the flam temperature.
@tomsitzman3952 Жыл бұрын
I have used optimus stoves both roar and silent. The silent burner heats just a little faster than the roar, but the roar works better in the wind. The silent burner will blow out in a gust of wind. When I was guiding wilderness trips. we carried both types of towers on a trip. Depending on conditions we would screw in the tower that matched the weather conditions.

I got it few days ago. It's just great! I use octane 95. Beautiful and working great

I'm not sure if it's true but i heard that lower octane gas is actually better for these..

Great review! Would you say it makes the flame spread wider as well?
@ColoradoCamper4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I think the flame spread is about the same between the two.

Thank you for this vid, I just ordered the BernieDawg piece also for my Svea123R. The stove's burner plate doesn't move like yours, it is really clamped in there. Do I have to pry it loose with a screwdriver or something to take it off? I'd appreciate your input. I figured you "owe" me since your vid is responsible for my purchasing the BernieDawg piece...:-)
@ColoradoCamper7 жыл бұрын
Yes, use a screwdriver or pair of pliers to pry it off. It shouldn't take too much persuasion. I hope you enjoy the new silent burner cap after it arrives! Cheers.

Thx for review! can this stove burn car petrol?
@joanandmarkmalinowski83987 жыл бұрын
Does this improve the efficiency of the stove? I don't understand why the flame noise is so critical. Please clue me in? Thanks
@ColoradoCamper7 жыл бұрын
I don't think it makes any difference other than the noise. The noise is not a critical thing, it's just that some people think that a loud stove interrupts the quiet and peace of being in the wilderness, and they prefer a stove that is not so loud.

Can you still get one of these caps
@KrizAkoni8 жыл бұрын
Wow! Does it change boil times much?
@ColoradoCamper8 жыл бұрын
I haven't had a chance to test it, but my guess and what I have heard elsewhere is that the performance is not impacted by the silent cap. It doesn't change how much fuel is delivered from the jet, so in theory it shouldn't change the BTU output.
@MrTangent2 жыл бұрын
Just got mine yesterday. Very happy with it so far. The sound reduction is amazing. Thanks for the video. Has anyone tested to see if it affects boil times? That’d be a great test. Two cups to boil regular setup. Let everything cool completely down, refill same test cup with exactly two cups again, with Berniedawg on. Both at full blast.

Just checked the links. Both stores closed for good due to 100% production cost increase. Where did you get yours?
@MrTangent2 жыл бұрын
@@basturma27 I just went to the i.materialize page (on Bernie’s page) and ordered it. Went through no problem. I actually bought one for my Polaris Opti-Fuel Stove, too. Delivered quickly, and work great! I worried about his post you referenced, but tried anyway. Order went through. I’d try it. :)

Do you still have the flame spreader? I’ll buy it from you. I need 3 flame spreaders for sea stoves. Yes I have the mini caps on some of my stoves.
@ColoradoCamper6 жыл бұрын
I do still have the spreader, but I plan to hang onto it. In windy conditions, the spreader plate works better than the mini cap, so I want to have the option to use either one. Sorry I can't help.

One question.... Saw these years ago and had the same reaction. Looks like I'lll have to try one out with my Svea - have had it for 25 years, given to me by my ex's father who had it 20 years before that. My question is that I don't really understand the difference between the two different caps he lists for the Svea 123 and 123R... one is flush at the bottom, the other (like yours) has "feet". Do you know the purpose/difference between the two???
@ColoradoCamper7 жыл бұрын
He says the cap without legs is meant for burner bells that have a pronounced lip to support the cap. Check your Svea, but mine did not have this lip. He has done videos where he demonstrates the cap with legs in a Svea, so that's the one I ordered.
@therealchickentender7 жыл бұрын
Good deal - thanks. Haven't used it this season. I'll dig it out today. Its the only liquid or gas stove Ive got left that isn't a tiny alcohol stove. Best design ever IMO. The noise is the only reason I don't use it as often. Pretty sweet he's selling these around cost now. I'm in. :)
@ColoradoCamper7 жыл бұрын
I agree, this is the best white-gas style stove out there. The noise is the main drawback but the cap will solve that problem for you. I don't use mine much for backpacking since my alcohol stoves weigh so much less. But I use the Svea pretty much every time I car camp.
@therealchickentender7 жыл бұрын
Same here. I don't think I've taken mine on a trail in 10 or more years, but it certainly used to go out all the time. I use a Bushbuddy these days with a little cat-can stove backup and a 2-3 oz fuel, which I usually only use once, whenever I don't quite feel like gathering wood. :)
@therealchickentender7 жыл бұрын
Have you tried out the Firebox stoves?. Bought several things from the maker, Steve, but still haven't picked up his stove. Really wanna try on out. Not a gasifier like the bushbuddy design, but just really well thought out and made by the look of it. And he just seems like a solid guy.

I have to quit watching your channel if you keep this up, it's costing me money. Followed the link and ordered a mini cap for one of my Optimus 8R stoves. Now to decide which one to use it with. I think I have a problem, they seemed to have multiplied, there was a whole box of them in the basement! Nice video, thanks, Bill
@ColoradoCamper8 жыл бұрын
Haha, thanks for the comment, fellow stovie! If you ever decide to give up one of those 8R stoves for adoption, I would give it a happy home. Cheers, and I hope you enjoy the new stove accessory.
@dofler7 жыл бұрын
i bought one as well. I got one in brass color to match my Svea. First burn and that brass color turned darker than a piece of charcoal - so much for matching. Yes, it reduces the sound. But as far as seating , it wont seat no matter how many times you burn the stove. I will be waiting for someone to make a real piece where it seats properly. Not a huge fan so far....
@ColoradoCamper7 жыл бұрын
Mine also got a lot darker after it had been burned in the stove. It doesn't bother me, but to each their own. Mine is seated pretty securely, enough that it doesn't come loose from carrying the stove in my pack. As it was burning I made a lot of careful adjustments to make sure it was level and that the flame pattern was uniform all the way around. Then I shut off the stove and when it cooled, it was seated very well. Maybe you have to get it carefully positioned for it to seat well? Just a guess.
