I would say the biggest pro of a portable over a fixed (lay-flat) panel is when used in mid winter. The output difference is then really high. I have 400 watt fixed on the roof and a 200W portable I only use for winter.

Agree with all your points. Always having mounted panels keeping your batteries topped off is the best in my opinion.

Agreed! We never worry about how charged our battery is because we know it has been charging.

I just asked a question on one of your older videos, which you just basically answered here. For a birthday present thinking will start with portable. The link you have includes e erything I would need for set up?
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, correct. Here's the link just to make sure you have the right one: amzn.to/3FkciMU It includes a waterproof charge controller and alligator clips. So you will clip it directly onto your battery. We still have that panel and use it in conjunction with our roof top setup. It has been a great panel! Thanks for watching and enjoy!

I think I would mount the panels on the roof where the brackets stay solid, so I could remove the panel if necessary without removing the brackets.
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 2 жыл бұрын
That would be a good idea. Unfortunately all the brackets I bought for the solar panels are setup that they need to be removed from the roof in order to remove the panel. I don't know if there are brackets out that like you're talking about. Thanks for watching!

I’m going to put solar panels on the roof of my Ford F150 truck, which I’ll be sleeping inside the truck I had the backseats removed in a platform built. I was considering after listening to your video and putting 200 W on the top of the truck and then getting another hundred watt portable panel to put outside. These are to power a 1500 watt power station to charge a 47 quart freezer Does it work to have one outside panel and two on the roof? Thank you
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman Жыл бұрын
That will depend on how your power station hooks up to the solar panels. A lot of the portable panels will have a different type of connection than mounted panels. I'd check with your power station to see if it works with the solar panels you are purchasing. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

Does rv roof solar panels causes drag and noise while driving in the highway? Thanks!
@ColoradoCamperman

We did not notice any additional noise while driving. Our panels are also probably 35' behind us. Thanks for watching.

I put a soft panel on my canopy due to clearance issues. My door slides forward. I had to glue it and screw it down....just glue is only short term.

What are the areodynamics like? We just traveled from WA state to Loveland, CO. Brutal going across WY. I HATE WY from Wind. Any idea if installing panels will rip my roof off?
@ColoradoCamperman
@ColoradoCamperman 2 жыл бұрын
We have never had problems with ours or the ones I installed on my In-Law's camper. Just a few weeks ago when driving home from camping, the wind gusts were 40-50mph. While that may not be Wyoming wind, that is still pretty windy! When securing the panels to the roof I used a stud finder and I made sure I screwed the panels to the rafters. Not all screws will hit a rafter, so, I used a fatter wood screw designed to be used in OSB/plywood. Hope that helps!

Really good review, but if you'd like to save you can use a cheaper panel with higher wattage and make it compatible for $20. I did a review on it and its saved me a bunch of money.
