Remember to use #ColoredClayWithJim the next time you post some colored clay creations. Did any of these blow your mind?

Turn the music down on your videos when you have something to say. So there's a few of these I need to see how to videos.

Amazing,it is mind blowing the different patterns and how they work out. I've been watching a potter in Kauai and he does amazing patterns with the coloured clay. Going to try and see if I can get my head wrapped around how it works out in the end

Hi Jim - I've never worked with colored clay but find it extremely attractive and have added it to my list of things to do with clay! All of your various techniques are appealing, I'd say nerikomi is my favorite - love seeing the repeated patterns, think it would be challenging yet really satisfying to get it right. I'm especially fond of (all shades of) the color purple, and would love to know the best mason stain(s) to use to achieve a gradation of lavender, grape, plum, violet, etc. Thanks for your expertise and inspiration!

Nerikomi is my favorite too. Although it’s the most frustrating sometimes. You should definitely give it a try. I’ve been working on colored blends lately so I’ll let you know what I discover. Thanks!

Hello there! Question - what's the thing you're using at 0:40 to create the form? How does one make it? Thank you :)

When mixing the clay what is your opinion on the best way to avoid bubbles w/out messing up your clay design?

Do you sand these cups after they are fired? Is there a clear glaze on them or is that just the clay? They are so pretty, and you are a great teacher. Thank you!
@CeramicJim4 жыл бұрын
I do the most sanding before the bisque with a green scotchbrite sponge. Then I do a little sanding after each firing if needed. I always hit the final piece 600 after the final firing. Cleans it up. Most of those pieces are raw clay outside. Thanks for the kind words :)

Love this! I have been working with colored clay lately and am hooked! I make my own, would love to know where you buy yours pre made and also PLEASE tell me if a zinc free clear glaze is necessary? I found some dark brown spots on some of my glazes pieces and am wondering if the clay turned brown due to the clear I’ve been using! Would love to hear your thoughts on that. Great work!

So do you already experience using drop molds? You’re wondering how to make two part molds?

Very enjoyable, some great combinations, styles. Keep them coming. Do you have DVD’s for sale Showing your process as I’ve entered my 87th decade I would like to slow down the speed etc. I work with porcelain and or B-mix, and mix the same body with stains etc. Hand build, press molds etc. Really enjoying your site. Thank you so much. I don’t have a DVD. Everything is on KZbin for free :) KZbin does have a feature if you click the gear near the bottom right to change the video speed. That would allow you to slow things down. I like B-mix. Haven’t used it a lot though. Thank you for the kind words, Diane.

Got it. I see how that’s different. Most of these clips have longer versions with step by step tutorials if you are interested. They’ve all be posted here or on my Instagram in the last year. Maybe I’ll give it a shot explaining my process the next time around. Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻
