Colored Pencil & PanPastel +Blender

Reminds me of working with make-up! I've had my sets for a while and decided to try a horse portrait with the Pan Pastels. So much fun and once I had the knack or it (different from soft pastels), I really liked them. I did use the pastel pencils for some more detail as well. Thanks so much for the video! I never thought I could use colored pencil over the Pan Pastel. Will have to try next time!

Hi! I use the Panpastels and colored pencils too. But I don't need to use the Panpastel blender, because they blended beautiful without this blender. Just, put the Panpastels first. And if you need to show the white colored pencils from top, you can use the Pastelmat or UART paper, ir sanded paper, and it works!

Yes, you can you Pa pastel as an underpainting underccolored pencil if you choose. It works great.

I find all your videos of great interest. I Enjoy blending polychromo pencils with zest it for a more painterly look. I wonder whether it would be okay if I did a pan pastel underpainting with coloured pencils for all the details on top but then blend with OMS with out it ruining the pan pastel underpainting. I wonder if you've ever tried it or have advice.

Hi, in my experience about Panpastels and colored pencils....I use the Zest-it to blend the colored pencils on top of the panpastel...and it leaves a oily stain in my artwork!!! Don't do that! because it ruins your work. A tip!

Judith, what 20 color set would you recommend as I plan on using them for animal portrait backgrounds? It’s too expensive to get the full 80 Color pan pastel set? Thank you

There are so many colors to choose from,, would you be using them for under paintings in the portraits? Then you don’t have to be as exact with your colors. Sometimes I’ll use a medium brown as a base and then I’ll still use darker brown on top and add black hairs if I have to but the pan pastel layer might be just a medium brown.

This is an off the wall question, but where did you get those trays that are holding your colored pencils so nicely?

I purchased them at Blick. If you are in the USA there are a few Blick sores. They have a holder that hold 10 also I think? Maybe 8. They are an awesome investment if you have a lot of PanPastel.
