How To Make Working Water Dispenser - DIY Desk Water Cooler

In this video I show how to make a water dispenser or water cooler. It works and made of regular stuff anyone can find at home! Super easy! Pour it with lemonade, ice tea or any other drink and enjoy!
For my DIY super-duper cool-cooler and beverage dispenser :) you will need:
Empty Pringles can
Empty Nutella jar
Empty toothpaste tube
drinking straw
THAT'S ALL!
Just few tips:
1. Make holes diameter equal to the drinking straw diameter (2 holes - 5 mm each, drinking straw - 5 mm)
2. Close the toothpaste cap tight!
How it works...
Well, hahaha, I'm not sure how exactly. I was just following my intuition when I was inventing it. But the main rule - the air, which comes through the drinking straw, pushes on water and it runs through the hole. If you will not close the toothpaste cap tight - water will drip. This means that air still can come through the drinking straw. Close it well - and the water will not drip! Amazing, isn't it?

For all the people that do make this just so you know when you use it for the first time after filling it up with water you have to run a little bit out so it'll pull a vacuum on the air that is inside the jar so it's better to have as a little air in the jar as possible but the straw still being above the water level. This also means to not take the cap off because that will just fill the jar up with air again

Firdhea 02 It has to do with Physics. First, imagine this: when you empty a full glass of water, the glass isn't actually empty, but the water in the glass has been replaced by air. In the same way, when you fill a glass with water, you actually replace the air in the glass with water. Now, a Nutella jar with the lid on it is air and water tight, meaning no air or water can get in or out. Also, water always wants to flow down, while air can go both up and down. So when you poke a straw through the lid of a Nutella jar filled with water which has been turned upside down, and the top end of the straw goes higher than the water edge, no water will get out through that straw, but air could get into the jar through that straw. Now imagine a Nutella jar filled with water that has been turned upside down, but with one tiny hole in the lid. Water actually wouldn't stream out through the hole, because there is no way for any air to get into the jar to replace the water. The tiny whole is blocked by the water, which air can't get passed. But if you combine the straw through the lid with the little hole in the lid, water would stream out, because air will be sucked in through the straw. Then why doesn't the jar stream empty? Because of the knob/cap on the straw. When the cap is tightened, it blocks the straw so no air can get into the jar, trapping the water in the jar. When the cap is loosened, air can get into the jar and water can get out. Tadaa! Physics made you a water dispenser!

Ok! I have to add my comment, I tried making it, my 1st one was Epic Fail!! I took it to the science teacher she guided me that the open hole in lid was way too wide because of which the water would not stop dripping!!! So i made a new one with smaller bottle on the top and smaller cut in the lid and yes!! Do make sure that the nob is closed tightly!! The tighter it is closed, the less water will drip or will not at all.

Hello people who have tried this and failed at first I failed but when u hot glue the straw add more hot glue and build it up more it the matter of being air tight,and When u screw on the container with your drink make sure u screw it on as tight as it can possibly go also a matter of being air tight.but this project does work,and the results are great so if the project doesn't work the problem is air tightness so don't throw away your project just add extra hot glue and tightness and it will work great

The non straw hole is where the water comes out. why it doesnt come out just sitting there.. i do not know other than it is science. but when the nozzle is turned, air is allowed to enter the jar through the straw which then pushes on the liquid causing it to come out of the non strawed hole.

A Pool Of Jelly Make sure the second hole isn't too big and that the spots where the straw meets the toothpaste cap and the jar cap are completely airtight. If you use hot glue for the jar cap be sure to glue it from the outside of the cap.

the reason why it dose not work is that your toothpaste tube/ lid has to be AIRTIGHT mines wasn't so it didn't work. if you don't have that use something air tight. I used air tubes for fish and the plugs for those tubes. by the way AIRTIGHT is WATER TIGHT/LIQUID TIGHT

It also looks like the straw that you add in to combat the air pressure needs to be above the water line in the contain to allow the air to go through and the water to go out.

Pneumatics. the closed container with one hole in it has to let water and air through the same hole, if you make the hole the right size you balance the forces. you need air to enter the jar for the water to flow because as the water level drops it forms a vacuum inside the container making the pressure outside the container to be higher and push back against the flow and stop it. opening a second hole means one side lets air in, breaking the vacuum, while the other side lets water out.

I used a plastic jar instead of a glass jar and it didn't work. Water was dripping from the other hole even when the cap was closed, so I double checked to see if the every thing was properly sealed and air tight, and indeed it was perfectly sealed and air tight. After monitoring the water flow I found out that after few seconds of water flow the plastic jar which I used was sucking itself from the inside, it felt like somebody was crushing it from outside. So hence I figured out that the walls of the plastic jar isn't strong enough to withstand the preasure that is created inside. So for those of you wondering if it works a plastic jar as well, the answer is no it doesn't. Well not atleast for me, If plastic jar did work for somebody please let me know. PS. - Just so you guys know I used a plastic jar instead of a glass jar to make a bigger model of this, and I couldn't find that big glass jar.

Then to find a suitable glass jar go to the supermarket and you will find the jar of medium-sized nutella. But it did not work to me anyway, if you really want to do it a water distributor then look for a video where the person talks like that is better
