I have had a Sierra & an MSA, they were also referred to as the Rolls Royce of Pedal Steel Guitars, but they aren't around any more.

What a sweet old man who doesn't show his age at all! Wish I had a grandpappy like him! And the music and the steel guitars... Oh, my: doesn't get better than that!

Mullen guitars are played by The Who’s who of steel players. They are certainly the biggest builder these days and for good reason! Mike is super fantastic!

Those are great sounding steel guitars! And so cool that they are built by a family business!

The rolls Royce if steel guitar??? That would Emmons. No comparison as far as tone.
@thomaspick41232 жыл бұрын
What makes that Emmons tone so beautiful? Supposedly a push-pull guitar. Today, only pull guitars are made. Today’s guitars stay in tune better, have less maintenance hassles. So, what makes that Emmons sound so good? The single coil pickup? A 705 humbucker sounds powerful, but it is not the Emmons tone. The rollers? Steel or brass are used on instruments. Nickel versus stainless steel strings? Old guitars use nickel, which feel good to play, but rust and break. How about the string gauges? Heavier strings break less with repeated stretching. Overtone harmonics? The plastic thumb pick thickness and brass versus nickel versus steel finger picks? What is your opinion? I love those old Emmons and possibly Sho-Bud instruments sound, but, in 2022, I have to go with the modern stuff due to parts. I forgot to mention cables. Amps- a Fender tube amp or a Peavey solid state amp? Peavey is reliable and has many modern features. I love the old Fender tube amps, but they are delicate, tube replacement is expensive, the amps are heavy and expensive. But, yes, the touch response sensitivity and clarity is lovely on a Fender amp.
