For old furniture like this, are you ever concerned with lead paint exposure? Does painting over other paint make it safe if the original did have lead?

Great question!!! The owner did lead test, and it was OK. I should have mentioned that, and it’s something I’ll make sure to do myself if I have a piece like this again. From what I understand, you can paint over it if it is, but you need a specific type of encapsulant paint (and you can’t sand or chip it beforehand). I’d personally avoid it altogether. One would hope furniture used in schools didn’t have lead paint, but as I know now, it wasn’t banned until 1978! 😬😬😬

Fun fact: the montage music over the cleaning of the desk and stool has a sound that, when accompanied by a bathroom air vent, sounds eerily like my dog puking in the other room. Before panicking, however, I rewound the video and reviewed and decided that it was not my dog puking. That concludes our fun fact of the moment. Back to the vid.
