Probably he is too smart to be treated like a circus spectacle and that's why he answers wrong. Like his owner can't see him who he truly is and is forcing him to talk as if that's his only purpose.

@@mugen8602 yeah. I remember doing something like that when I was 3 years old when I got some letters and wrote something. My mom asked me what did it say. But she asked me a very easy question. Then she changed one letter and asked me again. Then she wanted to show my brother how I read... And I played dumb and didn't speak, lol. I think I felt the same as the parrot. I think he needs more difficult challenges

Apollo likes to feel things. Maybe more than he likes to look at things. To "touch" is like his first instinct. His first tactic in learning what a thing "is."

They know that. They taught him when asking what made of questions. But here it won’t help with colors and they’re trying to establish that by pulling away when he wants to smack or touch the object

@@HereForTheComments it's because almost every creature explores new things by touch. Children touch and try to eat everything. For parrots, their tongue is a sensory organ and it's used like fingers to feel things.

I don't think an animal can learn how to read. Not unless they read literally one letter at a time which isn't particularly useful. Would def be cool tho

@@wisgarus i doubt it too. He could learn how to identify letters based on memory and maybe identify words based on memory but learning how to read might be too complex, worth a try though. The simple fact that an animal is speaking English is incredible. Lol

This is honestly sooooo fascinating given that birds can see more colors than we as human can even perceive!! So even though we’ll see white, red, black , and purple papers… the African Grey may be seeing some other completely different color or mesh of colors/shadows that our human brains could never comprehend even exist 🤯

He was not sure but did answer eventually. The more he practices the faster he will get them. He did understand color. Apollo is so beautiful. He has it all. Beauty , personality , and intelligence .

With the comments saying to be careful about rewarding even though there were some wrong attempts. They only progressed when right, but also there was also a theory from a well respected dog training saying that in their experience, even rewarding for 5-10% of wrong attempts in dog training actually helped progress leaning faster and happier. If I can find the article to post I will! It’s all about keeping things positive and rewarding the effort (but obv has to be mainly correct to ensure you’re training the right things!)

Yeah training should be about bonding with your pet and having fun! Keeping it challenging enough for them to have to work their brain is one thing but they have to get treats/praise enough that it motivates them to keep going too and not just get frustrated when something’s challenging for them. ♥️
