I have loved Colossus since it's debut in 1983. I have ridden it every year since. It's 55 seconds of pure adrenaline rush.

Schwarzkoph powered the coaster industry. While most of their coasters are defunct, this one is still standing! And it looks like a good ride. Plan to go to Lagoon this summer

It's a great ride - sadly the number of operating Schwarzkopf's are dwindling these days...but it's great when you find one operating!
@tractionalofficial42326 жыл бұрын
I know. It's kind of sad. The closest Schwarzkopf to me is actually not that close: It's the Mindbender at Six Flags Over Georgia. I live in North Carolina, which is pretty far away from Georgia. And the closest Schwarzkopf to where I used to live (France) is called Jumbo Jet. It's at a park called Amigoland and it used to operate at Walibi Belgium.

I have a unique Schwarzkopf in my local park (Pleasurewood Hills) although I am a long way from most major amusement parks.

If Glissade at Busch Gardens was still operating, it would be the closest to me. So would King Kobra at Kings Dominion.

Every spring Conklin Amusements would bring this coaster to Westchester County Fair in Yonkers , NY.. I think it took them 60 trailers to move it. The fair ended about 15 years ago
@davidjellis6 жыл бұрын
According to RCDB the coaster has been resident at Lagoon in Utah since 1983...so seems odd that it would be moved out of season to a fair each year in New York State? Are you sure it was this one and not a similar coaster?

***** They weren't overly nice or miserable...just the usual - doing their job. The park do have odd arrangements regarding loose item...there are lockers that you must use (no loose items on the platform) but not all coasters have the lockers at the entrance so you have to walk to another ride, drop the stuff in a locker, walk back to the coaster, ride it and then walk back to the other coaster to get your stuff...a real pain if you want to film the coaster as you can't leave the cameras in the platform. Also the lockers are only free for 30 minutes otherwise they charge you, so your time taken to walk to the lockers eats into your 30 minute free time. But the operators were ok.

Hi, davidjellis! I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate you taking and uploading this video for us to enjoy. You helped me conquer my fear and do something that I have been terrified to do since I was a teenager hanging out at Lagoon with all my friends: actually RIDE Colossus the Fire Dragon! I have severe acrophobia and even the thought of riding this coaster would send me into a panic attack. Every few years, I would go with my husband (this is his account, BTW; I'm the wuss of a wife ;) ) on his work's Lagoon Day, and i would say to myself, "THIS year, I will finally ride Colossus." And every time, the panic attack would hit me so hard that I couldn't even get within 20 feet of the entrance to the ride before I would start to shake uncontrollably and hyperventilate. So, a couple of months ago, my husband asked if I wanted to do his work's Lagoon day this year. It's probably been 10 years since i went, although he's gone a couple of times by himself. I said sure, and I decided that THIS year would be the year. I'm 42 years old this year, and this Colossus-phobia had been going on since I was probably 12 years old. It was time to put it to rest. There's no reason I shouldn't be able to ride that coaster, I've ridden California Screamin' in Disney's California Adventure and loved it. I happened across this video one day while watching POV videos on other coasters, and watching it made me confident that I could actually DO this thing! Every time I felt a twinge of panic thinking about riding Colossus, I watched this video and was reassured that it's okay, it even looks fun! So the day of, I headed right for Colossus as soon as I got in the park and was not only able to walk right on (no line), but I even got the front of the train! I think if I'd had to wait, I might have chickened out. I did get a twinge of panic on it, but not as bad as I had feared. I'm sure people thought I was nuts because I had tears streaming down my face when the train pulled back into the station, because I had done it, I had actually conquered a childhood fear that had escalated to phobia levels and rode Colossus! And you and this video were a big part of that, so thank you! Sincerely, Becky Maryfield
@davidjellis8 жыл бұрын
Hi Becky - many, many thanks for sharing your experience and for the lovely review...I film coasters for many reasons, I enjoy riding them, I enjoy sharing my experiences, I hope my videos will help the parks get new customers, and every once in a while I find another benefit...so a huge thanks for writing, and I am thrilled that it helped you overcome your fears...and yes, it's a fantastic coaster and a lot of fun! Well done :-)

@riparianlife977019 жыл бұрын
As a metal fabricator, I can look at 10' of a track and tell who made a coaster (most of the time). Schwarzkopf track is probably the most obvious. I think they kept the profile rather flat so they could get more pieces on a truck.

That’s the power of Schwarzkopf roller coasters, they pull high G’s on the loops because they are more circular than the traditional loop you would see on a roller coaster.

I used to be terrified of coasters until I was 17. My first coaster was at California adventures and it's 150 feet tall and after that I have fallen in love with coasters. Dont get me wrong I'm still nervous about getting on them like when I went to Knotts and rode a 250 foot coaster but once you go down that first drop your think to yourself why was I even afraid? Seriously try this coaster it's not scary at all once you're on and it will give you the confidence to ride more. Honestly the sooner the better I'm 19 now and I wasted so many opportunities of amazing fub because I was intimidated by seeing coasters. But once you drop that 1 time you're automatically smiling.
