this form of testing makes so much more sense than a cad test or a few coloured pieces of paper

I don't really understand the video, is this a test that could be used as oppose to a CAD/ishihara test. Or is it simply a demonstration?
@itzajdmting7 ай бұрын
The problem with it, is that it is yet more colour naming. The issue at hand is can the colour deficient pilot carry out the safe duties of an airman. A basic flight related test would be more appropriate, as colour is actually part of double or triple redundancy - and often it's more important for the pilot to identify values, states, conditions etc.... So ask the pilot: what is your current height above the ground? What is your current speed? What does your weather radar indicate? What attitude do the instruments currently indicate? Etc etc... these are all operational activities.

I don't understand why he needs to know the color of everything you can tell whether or not their is a problem by reading the display for example when the when the landing gear fails to come down their is an x thru the failed gear and I don't care what color the heading bug is I just need to see what direction its pointing to. Same with the weather radar he may not see the exact shade of green he is supposed to see but he can tell where the darker greens/heavier obstacles are. There is some problem when it comes to seeing the approach lights although there is also mathamatical ways to determine if you are on the glide slope. There was alittle problem with some of the map colors but you can learn to regognize map symbols and use logic to determine what some map lines are. I think mildly color blind people should be allowed to be pilots if they can compensate by doing things alittle differently.
@ljamarco2 жыл бұрын
That’s is exactly the point. The question shouldn’t be “if the guy see the colors” but “does he need to see (or to know) the color to understand what’s going on”….
@joeblowjohndoe2062 жыл бұрын
It's total bullshit. I got lucky and had an amazing examiner that realized I could see the difference enough to fly, and he passed me. He was a pilot himself. I literally haven't been affected by my deficiency nor have I really noticed the need to differentiate colors anyway. I really wish they would change the standards.

It's important because things will appear different colors (words, numbers, symbols) and they have different meaning. If you cant tell if your Nav source is GPS or LOC because you cant tell if you're needles are pink or green, that can have you fly a glide-slope right into the side of a cliff when you think you're safe on a LPV glidepath.
@ColHogan-zg2pc11 ай бұрын
@@joeblowjohndoe206 It's not bullshit; this guy couldn't tell where the papi's were at 10 and 7nm, that's a huge no-no. When you go visual on an instrument approach you keep your head outside the cockpit and aren't going to be running mathematics in your head to see if you are where you need to be. Too much risk when every other pilot in the world can look at it and simply tell if they're too high, too low, or on path. Additionally if a pilot is unable to differentiate the modes his aircraft is in (as determined by the color of certain numbers words and symbols), he can get disorientated and confused about the status of his programming/aircraft and cause an accident. I'm slightly colorblind myself and have to go a special AME and can pass alternate tests, but there's a reason this screening exists in the first place.
