And the last half of the video with the single cloud, I noticed an effect only physicists and arts ever see: the light is refracting at the edges of the clouds to produce a rainbow of colors along the edges. You packed a lot into this video.

@ I haven’t got the slightest idea what those are. We call them, translated from dutch, mother of pearl clouds.
@CatKim211 күн бұрын
@@palantir135 Sun dogs are lights that show up around the sun a day or two before it gets really cold (like -40C) and is caused by ice crystals in the air. There are usually two- one on either side of the sun- but sometimes it forms a ring around the sun that has colors in it like a rainbow. Like I say, not like these clouds at all, but they remind me of sun dogs.
@palantir13511 күн бұрын
@ thank you, now I know what you mean. We call those a ‘bij-zon’, like as if an extra sun lives next to the real one. Halos, a circle around the sun is another possibility or combinations of them.

Stunning … those wonderful colours remind me of a story my late brother wrote. Briefly, it was about a little race of people who were completely colourless with no distinguishing features so they always had trouble recognising each other. Then one day, one of them had been watching the sky at dawn and sunset and marvelling at all the beautiful colours in the clouds. He came up with the idea that if all the colourless people were to eat a different coloured piece of cloud, they would take on the colour of that cloud. They would then be able to recognise one another. Now I have to watch your video again Gylfi, and thank you for your unintentional reminder of my dearly loved older brother.

The colors and forms, shapes, textures of the clouds are certainly very beautiful to me. Also of interest is the nature of the weather represented. The low level clouds at the beginning suggest a fairly stable air mass near the surface, perhaps with light wind. The mid level clouds in the middle of the video hint at a very active mid to upper layer of air flow. And maybe at the end, a higher dry layer of moving air currents. It’s so interesting. My Southern California weather is quite bland looking with equally disturbed air but so dry as leaving clear sunny skies most of the time. Thanks for posting. Even though it’s short, I found it fascinating. 😊

Oh wow! Stunning! I lived in northwest iowa for quite a few years and once in a while we would have sun dogs. It was so cool! I would think you should see that in iceland, too. It has to be 0 degrees Fahrenheit or colder, with plenty of snow on the ground that gets blown high into the sky by high winds. It looks like there are 3 suns low in the horizon with a halo. Do you see that where you live? They make awesome photos!😊❤
