A walk through of Hanna Karlzon's Dagdrömmar, an enchanting Swedish colouring book soon to be available in English this June. This book is a sweet mix of excellent publication standards and beautifully rendered line art just begging to be coloured. I have been captivated by this book and I'm sure you will too. As usual this video contains a number of coloured pieces for you to enjoy and see the potential that can be achieved with Hanna's wonderful line art.
If this book interests you you can order the Swedish version here:
www.penstore.co...
Or if you want the English version it can be pre ordered through Amazon here. Keep in mind it will not be available in English until June 7th.
17/4/16 EDIT: So sorry, guys. i have just had confirmation from the Publishers of the English version that it will not be available until early August. On the positive side this is because they are working hard to produce the book with paper matching the Swedish version in quality. the wait will be longer but it sounds like it will be worth it.

+Isla Mae Hi Isla. You're not alone. When I was still at school I used to spend almost all my pocket money on art supplies. (I still have most of the good stuff i bought back then and it all works fine!) It doesn't matter what type of art you do, the more you do it the better you get. Keep researching and looking at other artists, how they colour and maybe how they draw if you are interested in also learning how to make your own art from scratch. The more you do the better the get.

Hi Petra, I just received the Daydreams & Summer Nights coloring books a couple of days ago off of Amazon and I think these are my new favorites! Thanks so much for your tutorials otherwise I would have never found these little gems! I also switched from my Prismacolors & went for my Faber Castell Polychromos to color the first picture. You are so right how this paper loves colored pencil! So, thank you so much for featuring these. Your fan . . .

I love, love, love this book! I've held back on colouring any of the pages which involve skin, as that is something I know I would mess up, so I was very excited to see your tutorial. I plan on starting this weekend. My copy of Sommarnatt arrived yesterday and is just as good as Dagdrommar.

Hi Peta, love love love your work, not only beautiful but inspirational (and also refreshing to hear a fellow countrywoman). I have thoroughly enjoyed every single video you have produced, and especially find your book reviews very informative. I received Dagdrommar in the mail the same day you released "how to colour a womans face" and had to chuckle, I have also just received Sommarnatt in the mail today and your are correct, just as "lovely" as the first. I am an amateur artist in Adelaide 45yo male, and just wanted to say "hi" and "thanks', keep up the great work :-)

I have Dagdrommar, Sommarnatt and another Swedish book I fell in love with (Blomster Mandala by Maria Trolle) on the way from Sweden. I decided not to gamble on the U.S. version's paper since I'd like to use wet media. I absolutely love seeing what you've done with this! I look forward to coloring along with the tutorials about face and hair. I completed the Duck Pond page and really enjoyed it.

Oh wow this book is gorgeous! This may be a problem for my already over-crowded bookcase haha. Your limited palette colourings always look so vibrant and alive, I'd love to see you do a speed colouring or a tutorial if you do decide to go that route for the beetle. I love the concept, but I tend to get bogged down in the execution myself.

That book is gorgeous, Peta. :) I'm hoping that it will be a good quality in the English version too. :) I've tried using watercolour pencils in Johanna Basford's Secret Garden (second edition, better paper, same as in her other books), Enchanted Forest and Lost Ocean. They take the colours well, as long as you let the water dry first, it will be no problem. I don't have any buckling in my book so far, although I did several pages in my Lost Ocean with my watercolours. :)
@PetaHewitt
@PetaHewitt 8 жыл бұрын
+Duddles B (Crafty Duddles) I've also done a little test in Enchanted Forest on the back pages and was surprised to find no buckling over a 5 by 5 cm section of brush dampened paper. I'm going to try watercolouring a full page to see how the paper will react.

That book is amazing! I have the second one as well and it's equally fantastic if not better. Also I could highy recommend Blomstermandala by Maria Trolle - another Swedish book printed on the same paper, again beautiful pictures of flowers and animals. I wouldn't risk with the American version as the paper won't probably be as good as this one.

+Kat O I'm in full agreement Kat! I received Dagdrömmar a couple of weeks ago, and I was so happy with it that I ordered both Sommernatt and Blomstermandala last week (all from the Pen Store). Although they're by different artists, the covers, binding, and paper look like they'll be of the same high quality as Dagdrömmar. I was amazed at how quickly I received Dagdrömmar (I'm in Canada), so I'm hopping up and down on one foot, hoping I'll receive them by the end of this week, I'm pretty excited! I would to ask to you what do you do with the pages you've colored ? You put them in the frame , do the bookmark ( for example) or other things , or leave the pages in the book ? do you protect the colored pages with some kind of spray to keep the colors ? I want to create my own designs , what kind of card do you recommend ? I hear that you like the paper of this book , has it a name?

+MegaAnezia I prefer to keep all my coloured pages in their books. i find with most pencils I don't have to do anyting to protect them. if i use particularly soft pencils or pastels I will spray them with fixative to stop the colour transferring onto the opposite page.

Hi peta just wanting some tips. I keep looking at the prismacolor/ polychromos pencils every now and again and wondering if I should buy them. I love colouring and currently use watercolours, fineliners and budget Faber-Castell pencils. Do you think investing in high quality pencils will make big difference in my coloring/name it easier? Or do you think I should wait and hone my skills first before investing?

5:43 - I don't think they are Ostriches, they might be Common Cranes. They come to Sweden during spring. And like the name suggests, they are a common bird here. I just bought this book and it's amazing! Hanna has a few other books out at the moment, Sommarnatt (Summer Nights) and Vinterdrömmar (Winter Dreams). She is scheduled for more books and I will buy them all! :D Just curious, how did you manage to get the swedish version? I just came across your channel and now I'm subscribed!

I am new to colouring and not very good really but I have the ink tense pencils and the magical city and have watched your speed drawings of them. Is there any way you could hold the pencils up in front of the camera before u use them or would that be too much of a pain? Hello Peta, I bought 5 of Hanna Karlzons books 2 years ago but now that the Swedish versions in English are selling I dont know what to do. I noticed Daydreams, Summer nights, Magical Dawn and Seasons, and Jewelry box are not the same as the original ones I would watch in 2016 and each year ssvthey came out and I couldnt buy a single book, due to my disability and the high cost of my 9 medications gor my degenerating spinal disease. FINALLY! I BOUGHT THEM, but they are not the same. Pictures are not in order, the first ones told s story, were in sequence of location, and now they are selling the Swedish version, Does that mean they are comparable to the first editions I watched the colouring community colour on for years after they came out? Because Im thinking of buying them all again, but are the ones selling on Amazon like first editions in yhe Swedish versions?

Any way Thank you so much for every thing.

+Kathy Norman There are many many print runs of Secret Garden- fourteen in 2015 alone! . Only the very first one had the paper quality issue. if you have that one it's quite obvious. Any attempt to layer with a pencil harder than a prismacolor results in the paper pilling up and the surface skin (membrane) of it pealing and tearing. It's very bad.

No, I haven't done a tutorial in this book, sorry. I'm currently filming a tutorial on colouring the grasshopper from the second book in the series Sommarnatt. (Summer Nights.)

Hi! What is your favorite coloring book?
@PetaHewitt

+Nicole Brisebois this is such a hard question to answer, so many books that I love for so many different reasons. I think I need to do a video on this or at least a blog. thanks for the idea and stay tuned for my answer.

What!!! The animals look much cuter in this😟 The drawings are also more detailed and charminh here, a bit disappointing how the books gave deteriorated

Amazon has been suggesting I pre-order this for some time now. I think I will! I just hope the American binding and paper is as good as the Swedish. I heard we got royally screwed on Animorphia. (ColoringKaria has a review showing how bad it was here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJ-cgZZ6f7iSjNU)

+Irkallah true. Why did they take a great book and ruin it. Grrrr. I have the English edition and it is absolutely beautiful to colour in. I'm loving my budget pencils in it at the moment... my ColouRush and my Colleens seem to work particularly well with this paper.

dear Peta, i dont think you said lovely enough, i think i would've said it more, haha ;) love this book and will 100% certainly get both of hers. i am absolutely in love with Hanna's style, as well as with Johanna Basford's. I have a question tho, which white gelpen do you use? i know you did mention it in one of your videos, but i cant remember which one! :'( I got told that the gellyroll white doesnt work on polychromos once one used a blender on it or burnished (is that the right word / written correctly?!) the area, but yours seems to work! and i really really do want one. thank you for all your amazing videos, i just finished my first picture with an actual face in it. used the techniques you showed on your last tutorial and it worked so well! imgur.com/vHQDJGw cant wait for the hair tutorial :) Greetings from germany!

+Milania Chan that's a great first attempt. You've picked out all the shadow areas to help give the face depth and form. You'll only get better with more practice. The white gel pen that i use and i believe to be one of the very best is the Uniball Signo made by Mitsubishi Pencil.

Hi PETA, just a couple of questions about this review...1.....you mention that Sharrpies & Copics are not a good idea in this book. What about Watercolours & Staedtler Triplus Fineliners? Also, you said Inktense were ok but why is that? I can't imagine that they're water based, or are they?2.....are these pages off-white, or is it the lighting?3.....is it possible for you to do a ColourAlong with one of these pages? I really enjoy them, doing them with you, picking up tips, listening to why you do, or don't do something, etc. And, if you've already done one, would you please send me the link so I can watch/save it, to do it when I can afford to buy the book?4.....on a personal note...why, with your vast colour & colouring knowledge, have you never written a book yourself? Couple tthat with your ability to draw, I'm a little baffled with why you've never done your own book. I really want to thank you for these book reviews. I like to wait on buying a book I want till I see your review of it. Your opinion is that important to me! I also just LOVE to see the pages that you've already coloured in them as they're always so beautifully done, you amaze me. Your insight to what colour to use & where simply blows my mind, as these are quite detailed pics. Well, that's all the questions I can think of to ask you, @ the moment, but I often think of things afterwards, so I might habpve to write you a 2nd comment.***They should have a rating for us to mark from 1-5 (or whatever) but you'd get all top marks anyway.
