Nah, the graphics were pretty bad even for the time. The models looked weird and the shadows and lighting looks kind of flat. It's the sheer amount of stuff on screen that is impressive, you quickly forget about the graphics.

That's because SA has 3 cities with their distinct "personalities". Although one thing that I found disappointing about GTA SA's world was the military bases. Gta V and even gta vice city had soldiers guarding their bases. In Sa,however the military bases are guarded by the FBI and police.

+ColourShedProductions You're wrong Rockstar didn't disable the Sex minigame due to bad taste, they did it because they wanted a M 17+ rating rather then Ao 18+ rating. Since a Mature 17+ rating should mean more revenue at least in the US due to all being available in all stores rather than some stores barring sale, which shouldn't really be a thing anyway but that's another story.

Compare that with GTA V where the only buildings you can enter are very specific shops and properties. GTA San Andreas deliberately did NOT output the max graphics it could, and focused more on gameplay. But lately Rockstar and most big companies, completely max out the graphics to the last drop they can squeeze out of the game, they also max out draw distance and size of map, at the expense of everything else. RDR 2 is a game that came out in 2018 AD , and it consistently falls below 20 fps in lots of places, for crying out loud.

@Lucien You have heard of consoles, right? The biggest gaming community? But even in PC, when you choose lower graphics that doesnt create content which could utilise the spare processing power. It just increases framerate, up to a certain point. When a game is designed for PC, they target certain system capabilities (hence minimum and recommended specs). Those finite specs , they choose to use in the way that they do. If I want my game to be able to play on a 1080, I will have to go by 1080s limitations. If 1080 can render 1.000 polygons at a time, and I want one character and some buildings in the game, I can have a character with 200 polygons, and 10 buildings of 80 polygons each = 1.000 or a character with 500 polygons , and 10 buildings with 50 polygons each = 1.000 and so on. Another factor is drawing distance. The more buildings have interior that is interactive and well designed, the less good they will look on the outside and the less drawing distance you will have. Everything is connected, and to gain something you have to sacrifise something else. When GTA V came out everyone was talking about how far you can see, how high you can fly ( drawing distances) , how big the map is and how beautiful the graphics. Thats because the developers focused on those aspects. If they focused more on things being interactive (like being able to enter more buildings , having more mini activities, more things being interactive/ destructable) have no doubt that people would be praising that.

He falls off motorcycles with the smallest bump, he stumbles while running and loses health, he can't swim, can't climb, can't maneuver while aiming, etc. Even though that's the case because Vice City came first, it also works because Tommy is much older than CJ.

I DESPISE THE MOBILE VERSION. Really, it sucks. On my Honor 8 lite it has insane graphical bugs, (stretching lighting issues) and it crashes quite often. Considering the fact that my phone should be perfectly capable of running the game technically, it is so bad. AND it has a bug which prevents people from finishing the game. The controller support is also quite poor, it uses the same mechanics as touch when you are using a controller, for example shooting is retarded with a controller and some buttons are in the wrong places when you are using a PS3 controller. This is all from my personal experience btw, except the finishing game bug i talked about.

Oh man, San Andreas.... one of the best games ever. I played it on pc first, enjoyed the story and the open world for countless hours. Then I started using cheats and had the time of my life. The possibilities seemed endless and every day in San Andreas was different. Some years later, I replayed it on Ps2 and enjoyed it again. And the last time I played San Andreas was on Ps4, I played without cheats and earned my platinum trophy for this awesome and unique game. All of these playthroughs felt fresh and fun.

Although I love 3 and vice, this game gave me something that no other in the series did. There’s such a wealth of different content compared to previous entries. Great review. It's difficult for me to choose which is the greatest game of all time between GTA San Andreas, and Red Dead Redemption. If i had a gun to my head, i think i'd have to give that title to San Andreas. Both games were masterpieces, but San Andreas blew people away with it's sheer scope. I can't think of any other game that packed as much content into one game, and did it so well. The missions were all fun, and kept the story going at an exciting pace. The map was incredible in both size and variety. Every place had it's own unique feel, and while it is dated by today's standards, it was mind blowing at the time. GTAIV and V are both great games as well, but are missing most of the cheats and over the top features that made San Andreas so much fun. Gone are the ability to control the trains, and crazy cheats that added so much to the free roam. Vice City was great as well, but most of it was due to the undeniable feeling of nostalgia that was driven by the music and atmosphere that made up the map. San Andreas was equally as effective in delivering on the nostalgia as Vice City was, and in my opinion took it to another level. Last but not least, San Andreas delivered more hours of pure fun than any game i have EVER played. Rockstar overwhelmed you with a relentless attack on your senses.

Excellent in-depth revieiw! I still remember the insane amount of hype and build up to this coming out, in fact I still clearly remember skipping school to pick up and play my pre-ordered copy and the incredible feeling of "holy shit, it's actually living up to the hype" sinking in. Seeing this review has stirred up my nostalgia and love for the game and inspired me to fire it up on PS4 and go for 100% and the platinum trophy. :D

What's even more interesting about San Andreas is that it's the Grand Theft Auto title with the most cut content. There's plenty of videos on KZbin that show how much stuff didn't make it into the finished product and they're still finding cut features to this day. If they had implemented everything the game would've been even larger and would've probably been the biggest videogame of it's era. This game really had it all...

dankmemerboi -also a trippy boi Bro i remember when SA first came out,i was still busy exploring Vice City thinking there is no way it can be outdone. My mind was blown, i just couldn't believe how much content there was, it's impressive by today's standards but keep in mind this is 2004. It's one of the games i played the most. As a kid i was just rampaging,years later i finally finished the story and loved it. My favourite GTA, Vice City takes the second spot.

@Ertan Soner SA has far better gameplay with better aiming (can switch targets), crouch shooting, rolling, climbing over ledges and fences, swimming, player stats, weapon upgrades, car customization, and just a shitload of more stuff to do in general. The sound, atmosphere, and radio station are subjective, but SA has better music variety. SA does look a bit worse, but that only because it has 10x the amount of shit going on compared to VC.

To me this game is still great. I did find some missions hard(because i played on the play station2) but it was still great. I would always wake up, do all my chores so that i wouldnt be disturbed while playing, and play this game for the rest of the day. Sometimes forgetting to eat or take a bathroom break(especially when i am at the peak of beating a hard mission). I will always love this game. But i wish they bring a remastered. I swear if you count up since my childhood, i have played 300+ every 2 week

9:00 I've no problem at all with driving from one side of the map to the other. A 5min drive, I get there in 2 minutes on my bike. Btw, sometimes I just park my car, or drive around, and listen to the music on the radio.

In SA, you can customize other vehicles, given they are able to enter the custom shop... you just need to edit a txt file that governs which vehicles may be customized in which shop... My favorite is the tractor with lowrider wheels!!

I remember buying this game on launch. I was so excited and it lived up to my excitement, first GTA I beat without cheats on a full play-through.
