One of the things I always loved about the story is that instead of following the cliche of keeping his powers a secret, Tanner actually tells people immediately that he can shift and help police find Jericho, and he actually convinces his partner that he has powers. That makes their chemistry pretty fun. Another fun thing is that the first times he shifts Tanner doesn't know how to react when he has a passenger in the car. But as the game progresses he starts to play along and even get smug with the people he drives around.

I mean name any other game where you can roll around in a 1999 chevy blazer, GMC 1500 truck, GMC kodiak ambulance, Cadillac DTS, Dodge grand caravan, Basic Ford f150 and crown vics, Ford superduty, and even lincoln town car. All stuff you saw on the road EVERY where and now can be driven in game. That I love.

I feel like the main reason they won't make a sequel is because they just don't know where to go with it. The game is a totally different vibe compared to past titles. Would they use the same mechanics such as "Shift" but in a different city? Would Jericho still be the main bad guy? Would the story and dialogue still be as goofy and lighthearted? I love that this story has so many threads. One is the fact that Jericho can be considered the embodiment of death that came for Tanner during his coma (which makes sense, after all, a coma is a state between life and death). It’s great to drive around the huge map, completing little tasks and such to go even further through San Francisco, and the Shift feature is very original, too. It was a great return to the roots for the franchise - except Ubisoft barely uses it nowadays and the fact it’s delisted digitally. For the traffic, each chapter has its own "pool" of select traffic vehicles. Or at least on PC. On console I think it just picks one of the pools randomly on game start. This game is a masterpiece. Incredible attention to detail is something that comes to mind after enjoying fun gameplay. This game has more recorded dialogue than Mass Effect 2! Every single time you switch to a car with a passenger - they have dialogue, but not one, multiple version, so you wouldn't hear the same one. And they react to your every move - crash, drift, gain police attention, lose it, jump, whatever - they will comment in a witty one liner manner. There are even easter eggs hidden in those lines, and most players would never hear them - characters are "type casted" into particular car, so Mexican mechanic would be driving old pick-up truck, and rich Arab will drive a sportscar. So many dialogue, it's insane. And it's not quantity over quality - it's genuinely funny and memorable

This is one of my favourite casual driving games of all time. Driving was just realistic enough while still allowing you to hoon around, without stupid mechanics like tap brake to drift, the dialogue and story was bad enough to be genuinely funny, and I liked the overall film grain look and the missions, it was fun the kinds of things you could do with the cars. I also liked the fact that it felt like it wasn't taking itself seriously. I had high hopes for The Crew because of this game, but both 1 and 2 left me feeling cold compared to this. Not even the driving is as fun. Cars feel like they're on rails all the time, and even the driver (no pun intended) animations are worse on the new games.

Ubisoft could 100% make a new Driver. They're afraid of making them because next-gen games are so expensive but they're only thinking of the AAA market. Make a Driver game that looks like a comic book from the 70s or 80s, live action cutscenes with the cheese to the max, tweak a driving engine to be heavy on the corners and bam, you got yourself a framework for a 30$ game that cost 10% of a AAA release.

As a massive Driver fan, I remember picking this up for the 360 when it was new. I played the first two games, I tried to play the busted mess that is Driv3r, I played the hell out of Parallel Lines, so I was excited for this. Overall, I thought it was pretty good, but I did have some gripes: 1. I don't like how slippery the cars feel. I felt like I was constantly on ice whenever I turned. 2. Most of the side missions range between mediocre and just flat out awful. I could live with all this if they weren't all mandatory to just beat the story mode, which is a shame because the story missions are genuinely great. Look at those last few missions with Tanner waking up and then just hurling cars at Jericho with his Jedi mind powers. 3. Something I discovered only after beating the game: There's no New Game+. I can't just go back and replay whatever missions I want. If NG+ was actually in the game, I'd definitely think more highly of the game. So yeah, I could probably get used to the slidey vehicles, but because of the lack of a NG+, I don't feel like I can go back and do those awful side missions again.

Driver San Francisco is one of my favorite driving games! It was sooooo much fun getting to drive real cars and the story was kind of wacky, but damn was it hours upon hours of fun for me.

I still remember when I had my 360 playing Driver:San Francisco non stop and being in awe of how the entire city and state of San was detailed. I really wish there was a driver game that took place in Texas or Tennessee that would've been interesting and fun unfortunately we can only wish and dream

also impressive how it ran at 60 fps

@@chillhour6155 on a system like the 360 none the less which made it even more impressive

This game is great but for the last 10 years, playing it with gamepad, all cars always constantly steer slightly to the right. I never could fix it. It's very noticeable on the 80% straights that is San Francisco

It's realism. The poor condition of San Francisco streets leads to a lot of alignment problems!

I had my copy of Driver SF back in the day. I loved it, my favourite city ever and a variety of cars and missions. in an open world! I really really enjoyed also the video, i liked it so much I bought a copy of the limited edition for PC with the little Challenger jumping from a ramp. 20€ back in 2016. Best purchase ever, probably

I love this game as a kid. Damn I have so many great memories of the whole franchise, even Driv3r 🥺 I got a unsealed PC copy next to me & yeah, I‘m tempted now. I got the Collectors Edition with the Car model at home, but it was the Xbox version, which I cannot play anymore, because I don‘t have a Xbox anymore. But my sealed PC version feels like a relic now xD Thanks for this video 🍀 Now let‘s start a petition to bring them back from supporting. It‘s time for a second installment. Jericho‘s been planning alot over the years

I might be the minority but the original driver and driver 2 are far superior. The difficulty I feel was what really identified you, the protagonist. You are a DRIVER. Skilled, fast, expert. The time limits and ramping difficulty really pushed that agenda. I get why many might not like it, I for one, miss hard arcade racers. On another note, you should do one of these on “The Italian Job” for the PS1. It’s a driver knock off based on the Italian job movie

...where the hell has gaming gone wrong in recent years, it feels like games like this will never get released again

This game is amazing. I still keep my PS3 hooked up and play it all the time. Such a brilliant gimmick, shifting. I'd put it right up there with Crash mode in Burnout, or rewinding in Forza.
